A deserving three Rosetta restaurant. We went because its new rating. We came w our Doberman. The restaurant had plenty of dogs around. While it’s a pub, the dishes were with good cooking and presentation. We like the restaurant and will be back

Took my girlfriend here for her birthday and was very disappointed with the cleanliness of the rooms - especially for the price!! We complained to the manager who told us that his staff are excellent so the room was fine! The food was also extortionately priced. Girlfriend was disappointed as it had some good reviews but wouldn’t recommend for the price & attitude of the owner.

‘The Killy’ - largely due to Chef Andy Brown’s unswerving belief in Michelin-inspired excellence - is already one of those places beloved by the socials community and revered by both culinary leaders and strivers. With good reason. We had an astoundingly joyous supper – proud and delicious – underpinned by that warm professionalism that custodian, Jim Alexander and his team, have brought to this delectable, sensitively transformed, Cotswold inn. With seriously good, unfussy food, generous service and a firm grasp of how fine hospitality can and should be, our ‘dine and stay’ experience was country conviviality at its very best. A diminutive starter of Venison Tartare (pickled mustard seed, egg yolk) turned out to be monumental in both flavour and wonder. Similarly, Simone’s Raspberry Souffle (stem ginger ice cream, raspberry coulis) was an edible artwork of gorgeousness. Simply, this is not just food, this is Chef Andy Brown’s food – and its ravishing delight is justification for getting in your car and driving (as we did) for 4 hours – just for the edible experience. Our overnight room(Suite 5) was without fault (OK, one of the lights failed to work), which added to the warm reassurance that we were being well-cared for - a respect that was performed at the breakfast table, too. Is there no end to this splendour? Once lost in centuries of remote rural neglect – The Killingworth, renamed, now firmly on the map, is possibly one of the finest and suitably busiest inns we have had the joy to eat in. Not to everyone's taste or pocket perhaps - but if you seek low-key fabulousness, they’ve wholly got it right. Tremendous.

Really disappointed with our stay here. Booked this hotel as it was close to Blenheim & is advertised as dog friendly. Booked a dog friendly room, called & emailed to check I could bring my dog, upon arrival checked in with my dog, on night two of our stay were told that we were not allowed the dog in the room we had been allocated so would incur an extra £50 charge for cleaning!!! Spoke to the owner who was the most obnoxious person we’ve ever met. His response was ‘tough luck, we’ve already taken it off your card.’ Almost £500 for two nights & the room wasn’t even clean to begin with plus the main light didn’t work so was very dark! Forwarded him confirmation emails, screenshots of calls but just got the rudest response. Real real shame as the rest of the staff were lovely & nice location.

Lovely building Cotswold stone Lots of steps and cosy areas to eat Lots of original features-open kitchen - which was quite nice to watch the busy chiefs Not a large menu Only one vegetarian starter and main Scollop and sea base starter cooked with lemon juice / didn’t expect it to be cold not to my taste. Beetroot starter. I had as a main was very nice flavoursome and cold. Nice fries Our other Dinning quests enjoyed there beef cooked rare. Cod lion v large portion and pork rib all enjoyed Quite expensive top end of our budget Plus full bottle pocessco at over £40 was far too steep! Probably wouldn’t return as a long way for us Good parking with an electric charger

Menu choice and quality of food : VERY GOOD Wine / Mocktail choice for 2 non-drinkers : POOR (well actually there was zero choice of wines, sparkling wines or mocktails) When the Bar Manager came over to discuss the non-alcoholic drinks available he offered us just two, a gin (Seedlip) or a zero alcohol beer. Despite other pubs and restaurants nearby (eg. Hare & Hounds, Newbury) really trying super hard with their non-alcoholic options, I was told there was no demand (?!!?) I simply don’t believe this, sorry. Times have moved on from “Coke or Lemonade madam?” Atmosphere in dog-area : POOR We were the only two diners eating in the small dog-friendly room which was a shame. However the dog was offered a water bowl and treat almost immediately - thank you. Choice of Cutlery, China & Napkins : VERY GOOD Cutlery designed by a local designer William Welch (younger son of Robert Welch) aka Studio William. Beautiful white pressed napkins. Service : FIVE STARS Rachel saved the day - she was attentive, friendly and super helpful! Value for money : OK

We had been to the Killingworth Castle often before lock down. On the recommendation of a friend we decided to have Saturday lunch there. We ordered drinks looked at the menu and asked which dishes could be dairy free for me daughter. The waiter told us absolutely no dishes could be dairy free. At first we thought he was joking but no he was serious. That meant my daughter could not eat. She is disabled and their attitude was frankly rude. We left and will not go back.

We stayed at Killingworth Castle for two nights whilst attending a function at Blenheim Palace. On check in we were greeted with the warmest welcome by the owner who was extremely friendly. He showed us to our room which was absolutely charming. Lots of character with all mod cons and what turned out to be one of the comfiest beds I’ve ever slept in. The breakfast we had the following morning was excellent. First class produce cooked to perfection. We even chatted to the chef and asked for tips on making the perfect scrambled eggs! Our server was great, really friendly and helpful. We ate at the bar the second night and again the food was excellent. It’s a really lovely place to stay, warm, friendly staff, great food and we can highly recommend a stay if you’re in the area.

This is fine dining without overbearing service or silly prices. It isn’t cheap but it isn’t unreasonable. Excellent food and service can’t be provided ‘cheaply’. You certainly couldn’t describe this as ‘pub grub’. And I enjoy good pub grub. This a place to treat oneself or to celebrate something important or if you simply feel like treating yourself to something special. The staff are clearly very happy in their various roles and passionate about maintaining the highest standards in everything they do. And the food is something to get really excited about. Intense flavours, beautiful presentation and knowledgeable, friendly staff who treat you as old and dear friends. Perfection!

Would not accept cash or American Express. Poor customer service. We will not be returning. Used to be much better.

Not sure my written word will do this justice. I went for Sunday lunch with my mother today and it was probably hands down the most incredible Sunday lunch I’ve ever eaten. The scallops were utterly delicious but the real star of the show was the Roast Beef, it melted in your mouth and the fluffy and very crispy roast potatoes were fabulous. This is a hidden gem in the Cotswolds that you simply must visit.
