I like this place; the interior layout and design is charming, especially the shop and delicatessen, and the staff always seem friendly and efficient. I've called in for coffee and cake a few times, often with a book to read, and have never felt rushed to leave. Although I've not sampled it yet, the deli looks lovely. There is also a huge selection of artisan gin, which the owner knows a lot about - a very good place to buy a gift for your gin drinking pals

Great little cafe deli, we stopped in passing through Arbroath the menu is limited past 4pm but still has an ok selection. We had the houmous and pate which were both fine but salad comes with no dressing, the coffee was also great but a flat white is not a latte. The cheese selection is also good within the Deli side of the business. ?

Great atmosphere, wonderful and friendly staff. A cup of coffee that is a mug size cup and the cake was amazing.

Another delicious lunch at Smithies and great service. Lots of interesting and new products in the shop. Can’t wait to see what Christmas goodies will be available.

Pastrami, chilli jam and Philadelphia panini. Find a better filling, I’ll wait.

Cute wee place, plenty of seating and a really nice atmosphere. Great selection of food and cakes - the portions are perfect and staff are friendly. Towards the front is a shop that sells cheeses and various foods/drinks - they’ve always got something interesting in stock.

Good selection of cheeses. Best gin collection for miles around. Staff are always brilliant.Would like to see a bit more delicatessen stuff, and some gluten free choices.

Some things are quite expensive and the shop is a bit overrated. We bought some chili and garlic chutney which sounded lovely and at £3.80 for a small jar we had high expectations. It was dreadful.. couldn't taste anything but vinegar. We would never pay these prices had it not been for a Xmas voucher we got from a friend. Some crackers and biscuits we got were nothing special and the cheeses are really expenses. Lots of people seem to like the place but it's not for us. Try it for yourself and make your judgement. The cafe was quite busy but we didn't go in. It might be good.

I only had 20 minutes between bus and train and the staff were happy to serve me a delicious soup and that with a smile! Lovely attentive service in an amazing vintage venue which alone would be worth a visit. The shop looked great, too. Very grateful to the railway employee who sold me my ticket and recommended the place! Such a pleasant and surprising find!
