We very much enjoyed our evening here - wonderful food, company and a really interesting talk on Scottish literature from a very knowledgeable expert and witty raconteur. Will definitely go back for more....

Me and my mum experienced „Living the dram” venue. What a fantastic atmosphere. We were welcomed by Gary and he made sure I had enough time to translate all story to my mum. Food was superb and served in beautiful pieces made from porcelain and cut glass crystals. Highly highly recommending!!!! We definitely will be back!!!!Food & drinks: Superb

What a spectacular way to spend an evening! My husband and I went to ‘A Write Good Night’. A wonderful 4 course meal paired with a celebration of Scottish writers and poets as expertly detailed by our host Garry. The table settings were so charming, the service and entertainment impeccable, and the meal had us licking our plates clean. Can’t recommend this place enough!

We went to Downright Gabbler out of curiosity. The food was great, and the entertainment was brilliant. Garry (one of the owners) tells stories between each course which had the whole restaurant laughing. We also stayed in the rooms above which are lovely - newly renovated and very comfortable. We'll definitely go back. Highly recommended!

The only place to stay in The Highlands and a classic Scottish experience! A lovely family business with excellent customer service; the rooms are beautifully decorated, extremely clean and appropriately priced. Yla was friendly, beyond helpful, and made check-in convenient. You MUST attend a Gabbler dinner with master storyteller, Garry. Not only is the food absolutely exquisite by Chef Kirsty, but the Advent dinner was filled with laughter and great spirits - looking forward to my next stay & dinner at the Gabbler!

We had the most fantastic time at the downright gabbler, We enjoyed our Highland history entertainment, Garry was a fantastic host and we couldn’t recommend it enough. Every serving was Brilliant. We had one alcoholic and one non alcoholic drinks flight. They were both lovely. We both learned so much from the stories of the history and had a great evening.

Brought my Canadian boyfriend here for a birthday dinner to expose him to a bit of Scotland and have nothing but incredible memories of the night. Gary was an enchanting storyteller, effortlessly taking us on an adventure through Living the Dram, and Chef Coutts' dishes were the best food I have ever eaten in Scotland (and I've been here 19 years!) Amazing interpretations of traditional dishes, perfectly portioned and perfectly paired with whisky. The attention to detail was second to none, the hospitality made us feel like royalty and the knowledge the hosts had was fantastic - I could have picked their brains for hours. We were shown the rooms afterward, which were charmingly decorated with thoughtfully picked beautiful vintage furniture, and all as clean as a whistle. I can't fault this experience at all. It will forever be one of my favourite nights. If you're thinking of booking, please do, it's worth every penny and they ought to charge more for such a luxury experience. Thank you Team Gabbler!

An Enchanting Journey and Unforgettable Experience.I cannot express how incredibly delightful our experience with Downright Gabbler was! We opted for the "Stroll Before Lunch" tour which was a magical blend of history, storytelling, and an elegant and comfortable lunch that left us utterly enchanted. We were swept away on a leisurely stroll through the charming streets of Beauly. The guide effortlessly weaving tales of the area’s rich history, painting vivid pictures of times long past. A fascinating step back in time. What truly set this experience apart was the warm and comforting lunch following the stroll that mirrored the hospitality of the Scottish people. As we savored each bite, the stories continued to flow in an intimate and engaging manner. The Downright Gabbler was not just a storyteller but a masterful narrator, captivating our attention. The narratives of the historical Scottish figures, both colorful and notorious, were brought to life. The passion exuded by the Downright Gabbler family was truly commendable. It was evident that this was not just a tour for them; it was a labor of love, a genuine effort to share the rich history and superior hospitality of the region.I can confidently say that our "Stroll Before Lunch" with Downright Gabbler was one of the premier highlights of our trip. A memory that will forever be etched in our hearts. If you're looking for an experience that combines the charm of history with the comfort of good food and the warmth of great storytelling, look no further. Thank you for a truly unforgettable experience!

Like others here, I cannot stress enough what a memorable experience it will be for you. Any trip to the Highlands should include the lovely Beauly and the magnificent hosts at the Downright Gabbler. We had the good fortune of both staying in the apartments- gorgeously appointed and a perfect base for exploring the area- as well as experiencing a 'Living the Dram' dinner. It's just so special, and fun!!Clearly this family loves to offer hospitality and, lucky for us, they do it to perfection. Kirsty's menu is a delight, Garry's tales and trivia will amaze you, and Yla is there to keep it all on track. I can't forget Jane, also-- many thanks for all of the 'extras'... book a stay here, and you will understand the lengths this family goes to for you.Now.. if only the secret shortbread recipe could be revealed... yummmmmm.Gentle reminder it's not a traditional restaurant, so advance bookings for dinner are required.
