At the back of the French consulate. Nice tent, a piece of France in the UK. Wonderful texts on the walls...

What should have been a wonderful evening to celebrate my daughter's birthday was a disaster. We waited over 45minutes for our starters and they forgot the main course for our youngest member of the family. It arrived so late that she was too tired to eat. The waiter gave incorrect descriptions of some of the dishes which also led to disappointment. The manager did give us a discount on the meal but that did not compensate for a spoilt celebration. Having said that, the bar stff were extremely efficient and helpful.

The waiter was absolutely incompetent. Our meals were ice cold and took hours to deliver. The only salvation was Jasmine who worked her butt off and was super friendly. The lack of star for service represents ZERO stars.

Itison dinner deal.An itison deal took us back to Bistro du Vin for 3 courses & a glass of Prosecco. The restaurant was fairly busy but not packed and there were plenty of staff. There was a bit of confusion over what menu we were on by the waiter which meant we were looking at the wrong menu before I queried this and it was then changed, a bit embarrassing for us.After our order was placed it seemed to take ages for our starters to arrive , service from then was slow and customers were raising there hands all evening to try and get the attention of waiting staff. This was a bit strange as staff were always free and standing in a huddle. The food as usual was good and the atmosphere pleasant just need the service to improve.

Excellent food in a classy ambient.

Very good food and a lovely atmosphere. But I found the service lacking - I was ignored a lot of the time, was brought a pudding without cutlery to eat it and, when I finally managed to get some attention, got no apology. Perhaps you need to revisit your attitude towards women dining alone?Vegetarian options: Not much choice for vegetarians

Having eaten before at Hotel du Vin in Edinburgh and St Andrews we were very disappointed..6 friends meeting up for the Fringe. It was explained there were no olives..no Chateaubriand and they had ran out of Grouse whisky..it was only 3.30pm. All this is understandable at Fringe time but the girl who was serving us (wearing a checked jacket) had an unfortunate manner..she was very off hand and acted as if she was superior to us all.

The signature rump steak with pommes frites was the perfect ending to a busy day! Really good béarnaise sauce too. Finished our experience with a crème brûlée. Great service and a nice atmosphere, thank you!

Just awful food, onion tart was so hard you couldn't cut through it, chicken main was just like fast food chicken and chips nothing like a French restaurant we eat in a lot of French restaurants as love the food this is truely terrible very disappointed as it was a birthday treat, the only good thing was the serving staff were lovely.

The food choice was limited, we chose the fixed menu, so it was already a limited selection. However, you found several dishes on the shortlist are already sold out! at 6:00 pm.Then I chose a grilled chicken, which is overcooked - it burnt, and tasted bitter! and the server asked me about the food, I said it is overcooked and tasted bad, and he can only offer me some jam, as compensation...The service was fine but super slow, I saw relevant comments before but now I know it is true.My biggest regret to choose it as my birthday dining restaurant

Ate here on our first night in Edinburgh. service and food were just fine, nice but not outstanding. We ate from the Prix Fixe menu and had a reasonable meal in quiet , pleasant environment with good service.
