Beautiful pub with good beer and spirits collection. Tasty food and good service. One of the best traditional pubs in Edinburgh although a tad pricey but worth it.

A very historic and stylish pub which dates back to the 17th century. Has historic Royal Doulton artwork displayed on the walls.

Just popped in for a quick drink. Always an excellent selection of beers. The bar is busy and popular but very under staffed. We waited a long time to get a drink. Another couple at the bar left aa they could not get served.

Excellent all round. Lovely atmosphere, genuine mix of locals, tourists, suits and partyers. Busy but bar staff never “off”. And a beautiful, unique and historic interior. They don’t make them like this any more. Highly recommend.

Spectacular and historic bar. Go for a drink and a look at the interior but not worth the inflated cost for beers. Shame but it has always been more expensive in here.

I was in here with my mum the other day and we will definitely be back! Staff were absolutely lovely and very helpful. We were served by a woman called Anna and she was very attentive and nothing was to much bother for her. 10/10 and I will definitely be

My Son recommended your place. He said the staff were very polite and helpful, food was great and the atmosphere was very pleasant. The place, food and ambience were just as he described. The feeling of history struck me, I must do some research on the place! We were looked after by a girl named Anna. She was very funny and helpful and took care of everything we needed so five stars for everything. I just hope I get another chance to pop in before going home to Ireland .!

Hey folks it’s nearly Xmas so good bars bang central in this super city are going to be busy so if you don’t like busy go to another city or a out of town bar. We loved it. Bar was super busy the servers were doing their best. Went in for 1 round loved it so stayed for 3. See you again ?

Had dinner here the other night with my partner for our 7 year anniversary. Food was brilliant, expensive but that’s what you expect these days. Staff were brilliant especially the manager “Anna”. Couldn’t do enough to make us feel welcome and made our night that much better. Catered to our every need and did it with a smile. Will be visiting again in the new year. Thank you again Anna you really did help us have a special evening.

* A note on grades, I rate outwards from three stars. *A pleasant, beautiful, and buzzy dining room with good oysters, decent food, and efficient service.A few months on, the vibe and room are memorable from our dinner.

We came as my parents wanted to relive a visit 40 years ago. They were expecting a broad range of seafood, amazing service and a hefty bill. We got the hefty bill but nothing else.On arrival, we were seated and after 20 minutes had to wave at the waiter to make a drinks order. After another 25 minutes (45 minutes after arrival) we had to again grab the attention of the waiter to make our food order. Only then were we told there were no hot platters and no mussels. We all ordered fish pie, of which there were only 2 so one of the party ordered the pea and spinach risotto. We were told it was an Arborio risotto, not pearl barley. Fine. The food arrived. The pie was nice; what you’d expect a pub quality pie to be with seafood and a potato top. The risotto however was not pea and spinach, it was mushroom (they don’t like mushroom). When we were finally able to get the waiters attention we were simply told “Oh you should have been told” as they walked away. One of the group ordered another drink, the waiter walked straight off so when they returned, we had to order the other drink in the same round. The waiter taking the pudding orders didn’t know what a Liqueur coffee was and turned up with the desserts spanning across 10 minutes. £178 later we left very disappointed. If you want a pub meal, it’s fine but expect to pay through the teeth for some stained glass windows and excessively long wait times.

This restaurant is a disaster. The service is the worst I have ever experienced in any restaurant. The staff are rude, unprofessional, and clueless. They ignore the customers, mess up the orders, and take forever to bring the food. They do not apologize or offer any compensation for their mistakes. They act like they are doing you a favor by serving you.The food was terrible. It was bland, frozen, and inedible. It looked like it came from a supermarket freezer section and was microwaved for a few seconds. The portions were tiny and the prices were outrageous. I felt sick after eating there and regretted wasting my time and money. To make matters worse, they made us wait extra long for the bill and the change. They did not even thank us or say goodbye. They treated us like we were invisible and unwelcome. This restaurant is a nightmare and a rip-off. It is an insult to the customers and the community. Do not waste your precious time and money on this horrible place. You will be better off eating at home or anywhere else. This restaurant deserves zero stars and a lot of negative reviews. Stay away from this place and save yourself from a terrible experience.
