I got into Maria Kakes for a coffee in one time, shortly after getting canoli and aragosti for a gathering, fantastic food, service, and conversation with the ownerAs I loved it, I asked a friend to get me a cake from here for my birthday & house opening, no indications and preferenceThe cake was so delicious that it made a perfect dessert, everyone was full of food, and all of them asked for an extra slice, that horrified me because it was SO NICE AND DELICIOUS I did not want to share the leftovers!

I ordered a birthday cake for my husband at Maria's Kakes and he absolutely loved it. For better or worse, Maria's Kakes have also fuelled my cannoli addiction. Truly the best place for a sweet treat in Edinburgh!

Unique cake of the day, looked like a donut but I was surprised when I bit in that it was a dry kind of cake, which was moistened in the mouth by the cream and pistachio icing filling. Totally unexpected but actually delightful. Went back to try the strawberry and white chocolate cheesecake - was light and delicious. Unfortunately I ate them both before taking a photo! Very friendly and engaging owner running this tiny bakery!

Had the absolute delight of popping into Maria’s Kakes this morning! The second I stepped inside I was hit by the delicious sweet scent of fresh baked goods! We had a tart/pastry(?) made of shortcrust with vanilla custard and a beautifully layered croissant like pastry with orange ricotta inside - divine!! Our short interaction with Maria left us leaving with big fat grins on our face! What a lovely little gem in Leith Walk - definitely visit!
Delicious authentic Sicilian snacks, pastries and drinks. Lovely service!! Took us back to sitting in a cafe in Sicily! Would 100% recommend and will be back again soon!

We had the cannoli, vegetarian sandwich, and arancini, and all of them were amazing!! Everything was fresh and yummy. Maria is such a lovely person. I will be sure to go back when I return to Edinburgh.
