My friend and I visited this restaurant and were disappointed. We ordered a starter which, when it arrived, was not what was advertised on the menu. We ate it but mentioned to the waiter that it was not what we had expected. He walked away as my friend was saying this to him but did begrudgingly apologise before disappearing. However, although he reappeared, he did not come back to the table to ask us if we wished to have anything else and we waited for at least 30 minutes before we decided we would just go. There was nobody else in the restaurant so it certainly wasnt because it was busy. Wouldnt go back.

Slow on food arriving, I wanted to leave and buy a sandwich. The place was clearly understaffed, considering asl the tables were reserved, with only one waiter and chef? The Ford was mediocre. Took so long to arrive and I wouldn't say it was piping hot.The pricing its very reasonable, for what you're getting though, it could be considered expensive for the quality of the meal. The waiter was helpful and keen to do things correctly. I just felt sorry for him. He did wil and nobody seemed to be uptight by the wait.I understand it's a bar, however due to the small premises the border level at times was intolerable. There's a severe lack of lighting in the ladies h toilet. Well there are actually four lights IB thre small space, they are very dim. An older lady commented to me she felt as if she could "hardly see ". The viability it's reduced due to insufficient light.I probably wouldn't go back here, there just wasn't anything special, unique or that I enjoyed enough. Add a whole, including the number of tables, length of wait, nothing special in the food department that I ordered. It wasn't unpleasant, there's other places I'd like to try.

Used a gifted Itison voucher for the "sharing board for 2 with bottle of wine". Warm cheery welcome. Mixed board came with slices of 2 different hams, 3 cheeses (Applewood Smoked, Highland Murder Blue & Brie), olives, sun-dried tomatoes, gherkin, coleslaw & chutney with oatcakes. A venerable wee lunchtime feast! A very nice bottle of red just finished it off nicely! Would recommend.

4 of us had an early dinner here, and enjoyed the atmosphere and service - a cosy place to linger with friends. Whilst the burgers were ace, the fish batter was soggy and tasteless and it felt like the fish was frozen.

Used an Itison voucher for a main for two along with a drink. Nice place with efficient and friendly service. Food was delicious and was well worth upgrading to the flat iron steak which was cooked to perfection.

I bought an ItIsOn voucher for 10 small plates for 4 people with a glass of wine. See photo attached. Tried nearly every single small plate available apart from the soup and the inly one we didnt like was the houmous (a bit chalky tasting/dry). Everything else was tip top and the house white wine was decent too. Definitely had a good experience and would go back again in future. The waitress was very friendly and helpful. Restaurant was clean and service was prompt. Keep up the good work!

As at 24th July 2019 management has changed the strategy here. It's cheaper but no longer value for money. Limited menu, poor quality food and small portions (I'm a light eater !). I was returning to enjoy the pre-theatre menu and the modern stylish food and ambience, (agree totally with previous 5 star reviews and prior quality verging on high dining) but tonight was so disappointing. Don't say you haven't been warned.

We got a walk in for 5 of us. Very nice food and good service! Although the place was very quiet. Our only fault was the bread came out halfway through the meal and we had to ask for more and no butter to accompany it ? Got some only when we asked.

What a nice surprise. Small menu so inviting you to eat something different and all really good. Friendly and good staff and properly priced wines. Certainly worth revisiting.

Delicious food (picture is of lamb belly starter), friendly staff (that knows their beers) and great atmosphere (place looks great with cool singer tables and wall deco).

Visited Tables twice recently for quick pre theatre food. I had the vegan beans and rice. Very tasty and good value and next time the salad starter which was good but needed a bit more cheese. Service good. Very conveniently situated for Kings and Cameo

I've been there twice now and something just rubs me the right way. It's probably the food.Food at Le Petit Mort is good! Surprisingly good, in fact, considering the fairly down to earth prices and the genuinely delightful setting. First time around I tried the lunch menu (burger + soup) which was substantial enough to fill the ol' tank for a day. On the second occasion I went for something finer and the experience did not disappoint. To date, this is my favorite eating out experience in Edinburgh.
