We needed a Saturday lunch close to my daughter's flat. Having passed The Urban Fox many times and liking the exterior we decided to check it out. Inside it is more modern than expected, but with a good atmosphere and friendly service. One club sandwich, a fish and chips and some mac 'n cheeses and fries later we left quite satisfied. Worth the return visit.

Extremely disappointed with our experience at The Urban Fox. We came here before going to a concert nearby. We gave ourselves 1 hr 15 minutes to eat before we had to leave for the concert, which we thought would be plenty of time - oh how wrong we were. We were very relieved to find a restaurant that was celiac friendly as one member of our party has a severe gluten allergy - the staff assured us there was different cooking preparations so he would be fine. The atmosphere was lovely and our servers were great. We were carried away in conversation that we didn't really notice until about 45 minutes in our food had not arrived... we asked and said we only had about 25 minutes before we needed to start getting ready to leave and they said "oh it won't be long." So we waited another 15 minutes and at this rate we would have to completely scarf down the food we ordered.. still no food showed up. We asked again and the server apologised and said I promise soon. It got to 5 minutes before we had to leave and we got up and said we would pay for our drinks but this was ridiculous so we need to go. The server ran downstairs and packed up whatever was ready for us in to-go containers (only about 50% of the food we ordered) - I felt really bad so left them £10 to thank them for packing some of our food, I really shouldn't have done that. Also it was relatively empty in the restaurant - not like it was busy.We ran to the venue while eating without any utensils and we were honestly shocked at the quality of the food. It was pretty awful, bland & some of which was inedible the way it was cooked.Of course, bad went to worse when our celiac friend started violently vomiting when he got home. They gave us a guarantee there was no cross-contamination when that was obviously a lie. Will never be back here & I am trying to get a refund but not getting anywhere with them at the moment.

Enjoyed broccoli soup and 5aday burger. Local beer was nice and very local. Reasonable priced as well. Very good service. Had returned already and probably will again.

Really enjoyed the food here. Was presented well and tasted good. We had a brunch but I'll definitely go back and try an evening meal. Definitely worth a visit

Service was a little slow but it was worth the wait. One of the best if not the best cooked breakfasts I’ve ever had and I’ve been to many cafes all over Edinburgh and beyond. I had a few items removed that I didn’t like and the portion was still huge. Cooked perfectly and good quality ingredients. I even liked the potato scone which I thought I wasn’t going to.Very good price too.

Lunch today was a disaster. Waited 30 minutes after ordering, almost at the point of asking if they had forgotten us when the waiter came and apologised - they had no taco shells so couldn’t make what we had ordered. Had to reselect. Took the same time again to arrive. Dishes were not as described on the menu. My £9 small plate of chicken tenders consisted of two measly strips of battered chicken. My sisters “sour dough” toast was a slice of cheap supermarket white bread barely toasted, with processed smashed avocado and an egg, for £11. I think the kitchen was out of food and they were cobbling together whatever they had. We left hungry and what was supposed to be a quick lunch turned into hours of wasted time. They didn’t charge for the avocado dish but the bill was still extortionate for what we were served. The empty apologies were the worst part.

I used to frequent the Urban Fox a lot. Despite it's average food it has been convenient and always had great service from the staff. It all came to an end when one night I was in and the staff were stretched thin and the owners daughter came in looking for a table and started treating the staff very unfairly and showed them complete disrespect. I won't ever be back.

This spot is great for casual drinks and relaxed dining. The food was really tasty and good value. I enjoyed the quirky decor which was an ode to the name! My daughter and I were served by Liam who was very attentive and gave us very good service. Will certainly be back as this is super local to me.

Pleasant surroundings, lovely staff, excellent service, great food. Decent range of beers as well. Well located for Summerhall (we were going to a show) and Queens Hall. If you're look for somewhere to eat around Newington/Meadows/causewayside, look now further. We loved it.

Really tasty and High quality food for a reasonable price, and a super friendly staff.

The restaurant has a welcoming and relaxed ambience, surpassed by its quality comfort food. The classic fish and chips dish is a standout, featuring fresh, flaky fish encased in a crispy golden batter, served with hearty, perfectly-cooked chips.

Can’t describe how bad the service we had here was. The staff made 3 females very uncomfortable. Couldn’t have been worse. 0 stars

The restaurant is very much a neighbourhood kind of place, it was friendly and welcoming, Staff were accommodating and nothing seemed to be to much trouble. We ate there twice once around lunch time and had an amazing all day Scottish Breakfast, The 2nd time was for Dinner and again, the food was amazing, generous and the staff again, friendly and informative. Please go along, you wont be disappointed
