We only went for a pint and a bite to eat, so can't comment on rooms. Popular warm and cosy pub. Welcoming staff, real fire, dog friendly. Food was really good, the curry looked very popular based on the number of plates the staff were carrying.

One of the best Scottish restaurants in Scotland.

Unusually for Scotland, a proper pub. This is a good old fashioned, warm and friendly country pub. There were two well kept real ales to chose from. The food was okay, I had a battered Haggis for starter, with nice crisp batter, very tasty. The main wasn't so good, it was supposed to be Beef Medallions and not the pice of tough flat iron steak that it was. It came on a bed of noodles with a very bland sauce. No veggies to be seen. I suspect I just chose the wrong dish. Never mind, the rest of the pub made up for it. I wouldn't hesitate to return.

Great atmosphere and the food was fantastic, the venison just melted in your mouth, drinks were good as well and the service and staff were very friendly and helpful great place to have a meal out with friends. The place was nice and warm as wellNearby activities: Great walks nearby in the forest, plus a bowling club nearby, and a good area for cycling and for artists and photographers.Food & drinks: The food was fantastic, and the venison was cooked to perfection and melted in your mouth. Drinks were good as well, and it was a great place to go for a meal.

We stayed at the Masonic Arms between Christmas and New year. They offered a fully furnished apartment with three bedrooms, two bathrooms and a lovey kitchen and lounge. As always, it's the little things that make for a great stay. The kitchen had the expected tea and coffee, with milk, buns, jam and butter, granola bars and fruit. We felt spoiled!Bathrooms were luxurious and pampering. The lounge was beautifully decorated and comfortable for the four of us to snuggle up for a movie night. We cooked full meals in the well equipped kitchen, and in general had a blast.BTW, don't skip the masonic Arms breakfast! It's to die for.Walkability: So many walks around this place! We walked a few hikes without moving the car, but also found some walks a short drive away. Windy though.

Went here when staying nearby on new years eve and day. I have to say what a fantastic place, brilliant staff and great locals. Food was lovely here when we had a meal on new year's day, they even had a local folk band playing delightful tunes through the afternoon. Can't fault the place or staff absolutely loved it

A group of 12 of us had a poor meal here this week. The quality of the food was not good at all. The worst part was the cooking of the meat. 7 of us had either venison, beef or lamb and all of them were horribly overcooked to the point of being chewy and dry, and the venison was crispy in parts. The noodles with the beef dish had no flavour or seasoning at all. The vegetarian meals of burger or falafel were fine but not great. Desserts were also fine. The service was mostly reasonable and staff were friendly. There were a few issues though. The cutlery for the starters was just put in a pile on the table. On several occasions drinks or food were put down on the table with force, such that drinks were slightly spilled and a cheesecake fell onto its side. Small things but just not a great experience, considering the poor quality of the food. The last thing is that we were sat in the restaurant section and the overhead lighting was flickering constantly throughout the meal.Hopefully this was just a one off, but for every meat dish we had to be so overcooked was really poor. Didn't complain at the time as staff seemed quite stressed so didn't think this would help.

Such a disappointing meal. We ate in the conservatory which was a bit cold. Bruschetta was garlic bread with a slice of tomato, curry only contained cauliflower and wasn’t flavoursome and the cheese board was dried out and unappealing. Partners soup was passable, main of chicken Caesar salad inedible due to the chicken being so cold ie almost frozen. Was £90 wish I had a pic for you but didn’t want to remember it! Service good but didn’t care that we left food on plates or didn’t enjoy. Such a shame as lovely cheap pub. Great band played during the meal.

I've had a few decent meals here in the past but my recent visit was very poor. The food came very quickly always a bad sign and my Masala curry was a big disappointment. The chicken was was just doused with some thin sauce and a sad piece of nan bread completed the ensemble. Was that the ding of the microwave I heard in the background?
