Hit the spot for £5.90. Good small decaf and excellent Victoria sponge cake. BUT, why no plate, it was droped/broken into a take out Chinese food container!!!

Theatre Royal should seriously rethink this cafe. A complete overhaul would be beneficial. I've visited 3 times post covid restrictions, giving it the benefit of the doubt, but I will not use it again. On each of the 3 occasions there has been a very long queue, very slow service, very limited options on the menu and completely insufficient seating. If you are happy to purchase a quick snack and to eat it standing up then please do, but I would not recommend it.

Just had afternoon tea at Vanilla Black at theatre Royal Glasgow. I took my 80 yr old mum as a treat before a matinee. What a lovely experience ! We were shown to our table which was beautifully set with vase of flowers and rose petals. The waitress was just lovely and so helpful. We enjoyed delicious selection of sandwiches to start along with plenty of tea. We were then brought the cakes and scones all served on a silver cake stand and decorated with strawberries and little chocolate sweets. We then were brought more tea. The whole afternoon tea was absolutely lovely with great service and very reasonable price of £20 for two. The lovely server was so nice and very helpful - I thoroughly recommend the whole experience. Well done !!

Very disappointing pre-theatre dining experience making me wonder 'Did we miss something'?! There are so many reviews on here of a delicious afternoon tea but we couldn't see anything offering an afternoon tea or even a decent lunch or snack! All the sandwiches were pre-packed in 'take out' cardboard containers, we were not given plates and our tea was served in a take out cardboard cup. It's advertised as a restaurant, not a take out cafe. There were no tables and we had to share a narrow bench and use a plastic chair as a makeshift table. I had a cream cheese and smoked salmon sandwich and the portion of smoked salmon was barely there! The staff member I spoke to, enquiring about where the menu was, was pleasant but not very knowledgeable. For instance, she didn't know whether or not there was soup or any hot meal options or salads. This is the worst pre-theatre dining experience I have ever had so, what went wrong that our experience was so different from those claiming they had a wonderful afternoon tea? Does it have to be pre-booked? I felt like we'd had a take out snack in a place similar to a bus station waiting room. Why were we served 'take out' food when sitting in a restaurant??

When you walk in the place looks like a cafe but the afternoon tea was amazing. Delicious sandwiches e.g. Brie and caramelised onion, salmon etc. Two lovely young ladies attended to us and were very friendly and helpful. I would recommend it.

Really lovely afternoon tea with my grandmother, staff helped with dietary requirements from the first enquiry of booking. We both thoroughly enjoyed our food we were 30 minutes early but that wasn’t an issue at all! Waitress was very friendly and the presentation of the food was fantastic ! Fresh and delicious. Thank you.
