A simply wonderful restaurant and one which never fails to impress. The food and service are faultless and the round trip of 200 miles is well worth the effort! From the immaculate table settings through to the excellent wine list and..of course..the beautifully presented flavoursome food this is a very special place.

This was our first visit to the restaurant and it certainly won’t be our last. We were very fortunate to get in for lunch on Friday at short notice-usually you have to book weeks in advance. The room is small but the tables are set apart at a reasonable distance. The settings are very nice with beautiful, crisp, white napiery and tablecloth and a delicate, tiny flower on the table. Our amuse bouche was a superbly seasoned Thai coconut soup which I would have been delighted to have had as a starter. The starters though were both superb and even better than the soup. Both my wife and I had duck as a main course and it was succulent and very tasty, and it looked nice on the plate too which was a bonus. Finally we came to the dessert which was probably the highlight of the meal. Mine was a blackcurrant pane cotta with baked apple rings and apple yoghurt ice cream-simply divine. The coffee and petit fours afterwards-all part of the meal, was lovely and rounded off what was a very memorable occasion. We did not partake of wine but the wine list is extensive and very reasonably priced. I would thoroughly recommend this restaurant and suggest you book well in advance! It is well worth the planning.

La Potiniére may be small but it has a very big personality. Forget the young pretenders and celebrity chefs - this is where the real magic happens. Keith Marley and Mary Runciman have created a unique and beautiful restaurant, serving wonderful food. Everything here is thoughtfully planned and practised to perfection, attention to detail is second to none, and the result is an exquisite dining experience that brings a host of loyal customers back again and again. A special place created by special people.

Flipping amazing meal. Worth a trip too from Edinburgh. Phenomenal meal for New Year's Eve, great service and banter with the chef. Good local produce, treated with care and skill.

First time at La Potiniere for a Sunday afternoon lunch - cannot fault it. Beautiful surroundings, fabulous food, perfectly seasoned and simply delicious. From the amuse-bouche which was divine to the beautiful homemade bread, the stunning twice baked cheese and curried cauliflower soufflé starter then the delectable salmon risotto with perfectly cooked salmon fillet and a pear pudding perfection to finish. It’s not Sunday lunch really, it’s a dining experience that was worth every penny finished off with a pot of coffee and tea with petit fours. A complete success and not overly pretentious food like some of the so called upmarket Edinburgh eateries that are all foams and obscure ingredients. This is good quality ingredients cooked perfectly. Keith at front of house never stops but quietly goes about making sure your every need is met before you even ask. Just a wonderful place to go and we will be back. Thank you for making our Christmas treat a wonderful success. La Potiniere is the bomb.

Delicious food. Booked solid until Xmas. We were lucky to get a table thanks to a cancellation.

I ate here a few times over half a lifetime ago and although different to the previous incarnation, we had a thoroughly enjoyable meal and experience. Solid food - monkfish and lamb rack both excellent, lovely tarts, tasty desserts and good old fashioned service from Keith, washed down with a couple of cracking bottles of Palliser Pinot Noir. Quaint and unique, it was lovely to see an owner operator at work who cares about his customers far more so than the operator across the road, delivering a far better product and meeting expectations!!!! We thoroughly enjoyed it!!! , Thoroughly enjoyed it!!!

Had high hopes of an enjoyable gourmet evening , considering the number of excellent reviews ,but left disappointed. As described succinctly by Peter E (January 2022, we found the welcome somewhat lukewarm and the place lacked atmosphere. Little engagement from the maitre d,who I think was one of the owners.Expected service to be slow but waiting 45 minutes for bread at the start seemed excessive. Overall the food was of a high standard except for my main course of steamed sole which was rather mushy and lacked flavour . Noticing a sizeable piece left on my plate I was asked if I hadn’t enjoyed it. I said it wasn’t to my taste and no further enquiry for more detail was made then or at the end of the meal. Cheese soufflé starter and sweet both enjoyed and well presented .Wine prices reasonable.

We had to wait outside until just before 12.30 when they open for lunch. Having been sat at the wrong table first we were soon seated and our friends arrived. The menu gave a good range of freshly prepared and cooked food and they had been careful to check that none of our party had allergies or intolerances when we booked. The food was delicious and we noticed that the wine was a little cheaper than the Bonnie Badger across the road. We enjoyed our meal and managed to hear each other despite a large party who were quite noisy for what is a small space. We will certainly return but booking is essential because it is quite small.

Amazing food. Amazing restaurant. Big likes are - no music (so rare these days), no rush (also rare these days), no pressure - lots of time for conversation and digestation, value for money, fresh after meal coffee included (again a rare thing) and beautifully prepared food. Highly recommended.
