Here in Leven for a wee family staycation and thought we’d give The Caledonian a try.Definitely not disappointed! From the minute we walked in to we were shown to our table it was flawless.Big friendly smiles and full explanation of the menu and a heads up of what items weren’t available which was 1 item out the full menu.We were given time to get settled before our drinks and food order were taken by Jody. This young lady is an asset to your business.Happy, chatty and nothing was a bother.Everything arrived with no real wait.check backs done and we continue to feast away.Portions are spot on.Only 1 out of 4 could manage a dessert but she eats me outta house and home for fun.unfortunately I can only provide coffee and dessert picks as we hoovered the mains. While in Leven will 100% be back before we go home

A budget-priced, comfortable, high street pub in desperate need of a refurb. Perfectly decent pub-style food, with very enthusiastic staff, but the rooms and public spaces looked very tired. It seemed formerly to be a Belhaven pub taken over by Greene King. Leven doesn’t have much to offer (although two golf links in the town) but is a good location for exploring Fife: the coastline is beautiful. We stayed two nights en route from Edinburgh to the Trossachs.

Food was good but way to much for myself I used to order from the kids menu as it was a big enough portion just for me and if I brought my mother she would be the same did ask about kids menu but got told it's only for under 12s

Went for dinner with my wife waited ages on being served then we ordered the food my wife ordered the chicken skewers when it came looked like child portion and tasted like slimey chicken. Then had to wait in between for drinks I went to the bar and they told me to sit down as its table service no idea how to run a restaurant tbh Main meals came had better at McDonald's tbh will never be back as its cheap and nasty

Wonderful accommodating staff, especially Sindy, the food was brilliant, will definitely be coming here again! Would recommend the nachos & fajitas & the breakfasts are very tasty. Everything is kept very clean & tidy. All of this for a reasonable price.

Popped in on the off chance and we were so pleasantly surprised. The serving team were so helpful and seemed genuinely happy to work here. our main server was Jody who was just fab. The food was also fantastic, everything was so tasty with no lengthy delays. We are in Kinghorn a lot but I think we will be popping over to Leven just for the sunny smiles and fantastic food

Understand reviews are subjective but we cannot fathom how wildly our experience differed from those posting high ratings ? Nice friendly check in, reception (and bar) look promising … then you walk through the door to the hotel and are transported back to 1973 and a cheap coach trip. In dire dire need of an upgrade the place is beyond a refresh and in need of a complete overhaul. On entry the room had a distinct odour of vomit and bleach, our friends room had a similar but not nearly as bad odour. When plugging in the TV my hand was covered in something thick and sticky - so disgusted I ran to wash it off and had no desire to inspect it. The rickety windows let in all the noise throughout the night - cars, rowdy people outside etc etc so even when shutting eyes the impact of this dreadful place was apparent. Walls are marked, everything is shabby. Bed linen and towels were clean, fresh and decent quality which was the only plus… especially when you want to shower to wash the ‘ick of the room off. We had to stay in the area and accepted this was simply a place to lay our heads but due to the state (and smell) of the rooms we decided not to eat dinner or breakfast there although the bar/restaurant was quite busy. £70 is robbery for a room of such dreadfully poor standard.

Absolutely brill time. My wife , dog and I were travelling round the Fife area and we used this hotel as our main base . Great location near the beach . Breakfast and dinner menus excellent as it offered varied meals. All the staff including domestic assistants were so pleasant and very helpful . I know if my dog could speak he would agree with me. Will definitely go back again

If you are planning on staying at this hotel I suggest you scroll through the reviews to find ones where people have stayed overnight and not just food. The majority of reviews are positive as they are for the food service side only. Have a look at the photos from travellers, and you will see a better reflection of this hotel. There has been no change, from what I experienced, to what I have seen on here from 2017 reviews. I made the fatal error, despite being an avid user of Tripadvisor, of relying on Booking.com reviews and the lack of availability nearer to my destination forcing me to make a quick decision. The outside is ok, not inspiring but ok, on arrival the receptionist came from a room behind the reception carrying some paperwork. I was not sure if she spoke to me as she was wearing a mask (i understand its the rules, just saying it is something that hindered me hearing her) and she did not look in my direction as though she was speaking to me. She then looked up and shouted "whats the name" so given the tone of her voice I assume she had previously spoken me and on reciving no answer decided to shout. Take what you will from that welcome to The Caledonian. We got our room key and off we went, using the stairs. That was when my heart started to sink even further, it was grubby and made me feel like I was in a service area not meant for guests, with scuff marks and stains everywhere. Arriving at our room, I don't know best how to describe it, but it was dire. Talk about a blast from the past, I don't think it had seen a lick of paint, or any maintenance sice around 1980. The stains on the carpet were gross, one of the beds had a leg in the middle, just hanging loose and the bathroom was so old no cleaner could possibly keep it clean. The flooring was grubby and the old style commercial safety floor you see in hospitals going up the wall. The curtains were dark blue, except for the bit in the middle where they are exposed to the sun and were bleached of any colour. When you are in such a poor environment it leads you believe your potentially unsafe too, there was no phone, but a number was provided as a contact for if there were any problems. Then when 2 men in the room next door arrived back at 12.30am we could hear ever word of their conversation and hilarity, courtesy of paper thin walls. Shortly after arrival we needed to eat and did not know the area, from reception you can see into the pub/restaurant area which in all fairness looked fine and there were quite a few people in. The food was good, arrived fresh and hot and reasonable portion size. Its certainly not real restaurant quality, pub chain style, but it was enjoyable. After our meal we went to reception to ask if we could be moved from our room as it was not acceptable. The receptionist said there were no rooms that were not like the one we were in, her words were "they are all well used" and then informed us that they are receiving an upgrade soon. However while we waited to speak to her she was on the phone taking a booking from someone for the 20th June for 6 nights at a rate of over £700. I did make comment to the receptionist that that poor person would be paying a lot of money for the quality of rooms available and she said the rooms would be refubed by then. Given the level of refurb needed, they are going to need some time, but thats just a heads up. The previous weekend I spent 2 nights in Ipswich at a Holiday Inn, it too was dated but it was more than acceptable, I paid £17 more for it per night but that included 2 breakfasts. So the accommodation costs were comparable, but there was no comparison in the level of accommodation. I mention that, to demonstrate that I am not used to staying in high end hotels and I have reasonable expectations for the price I pay, however there needs to be a basic minimum, and this fell below it. Perhaps the receptionist was not being truthful and some rooms are better, not a risk I would be willing to take, Would I go back, No. If you have got to the end of this and are just visi

I booked the Caley for a family funeral. We were looked after brilliantly from start to finish. What could have been a difficult day turned into a really enjoyable family occasion. The staff were all really attentive and it was nice of the manager to check everything was okay, which it certainly was. A special thanks to Lauren who never stopped and made sure everything was perfect. Friends and family all commented on how well organised everything was and how lovely the staff were. Thanks so much.
