Very disappointing. We were seated before being left for 15 mins while staff chatted behind counter, i had to approach counter to place order. I ordered a sausage roll, but received bacon. I didn't complain as I was hungry and didn't have time wait another quarter of an hour. Will probably avoid in the future.

I am a regular customer of the merry hatton Caffe. Today l was horrified to find out that my gluten free scone was £1 more expensive than my friend scone that sat with me that wasn't gluten free. When l asked at the tills she explained that the ingredients are more expensive ?. I used to enjoy going in for a cake and coffee but won't be doing it now....l got home and rang round all local Caffe and garden centers. None of them were charging their gluten free customers a premium. Unbelievable

Service was unbelievably slow. Staff were not empathetic about it, and and did not display any element of basic customer service. It was meant to be table service but we waited for so long, we weren't acknowledged at all, and had to go up to the front to order. Service still took ages after that despite the cafe only having 4 tables of customers. I got a can of soft juice, and the glass that they gave me with it was dirty. It smelt like coffee and still had old milk on it.reply to Helen:Hi Helen, we did not seat ourselves. We waited very patiently for a memeber of staff to seat us, which she did, then no one came back to take our order! The other 4 tables also received slow service so that's not really an excuse. Also it was definitely milk in the glass.

Stopped off at the cafe in the Merryhatton Garden Centre during a chilly cycle ride in January. The sandwich portions were very generous and helped propel us home. ?Table service was good and the staff were all pleasant.

It's ok. Cafe is nice but on Saturday 23rd December, I found scones dry, tasteless and hard. My friends cake was dry. Tea served in dirty stained teapot. Latte served to my friend had been spilt over tray and into cake plate but still served to us. Staff are very friendly and pleasant but overall, the cafe is expensive for what you get. Been a few times before and normally it's fine but on this occasion it wasn't.Comment updated to give more detail to reviewer.

We headed here for lunch on a wet and windy day. Really quick service and enjoyed a tasty brie and cranberry panini for me and my daughter enjoyed a large, tasty bowl of mushroom soup.A lovely surprise to find a quartet playing Christmas carols in the cafe area.Highly recommend a visit.ps we will return on a dryer day and spend time looking at plants.

Sat for 25 minutes before I had to ask for our order to be taken. Watching people walk out fed up waiting for service. Such a shame as this used to be such a fantastic place. I am aware there are staffing issues across the board but to keep filling tables and not actively serving people doesn't help.

Friday 8 Dec 1pm. Took 20 mins to be served after being seated and had to ask to be served. Friend ordered xmas club sandwich which was good, but I had the macaroni cheese which I’ve had before and it was always very nice. However, I was shocked today by receiving a tiny bowl of cooked macaroni mixed with a small amount of melted cheese. This is not macaroni cheese, there was no sauce! I have to be honest and say it was the worst Mac and Cheese I have ever had. Come on people, if your chef can’t make a decent Mac and Cheese then you have no chance! Nice staff but slow service and food not as good as it used to be.

I've lived in east lothian all of my life and visited Merryhatton garden centre for the first time today and I'll definitely be back, what a great place! We had some food in the cafe and the paninis are awesome, if you like bacon brie and cranberry I can honestly say this was the best I've ever had, my wife had a lovely latte with some cake, the service was second to none and everyone was very polite and helpful, what a refreshing place, highly recommend!
