“We’d walked past Mae Ping Thai Dining a few times and always meant to try it. My wife and I are big fans of Thai food — if we see a Thai restaurant, we’ll usually give it a go. That said, Thai food can be hit or miss: sometimes great, sometimes lame. Fortunately, Mae Ping is firmly in the great category.
We went on a Tuesday night with my mum, niece, and nephew. The restaurant was about half full, the ambiance was warm and welcoming, and the service was friendly and efficient.
My wife and I both ordered the Pad Kra Pao, and it was as authentic as you could hope for — great spice level, beautifully cooked, and full of flavour. One thing we’ve noticed with some Asian food in Scotland (particularly Chinese) is that it can be heavily adapted to the Scottish palate, often making it far too sweet. We were a bit worried that might happen here, but it didn’t. The dishes tasted like real Thai food, and we couldn’t be happier about it.
All in all, it was a great night, and we’ll definitely be going back. If you love Thai food that actually tastes like Thailand, Mae Ping is the place to go.”
