Just visited this beautiful pub located not far from Keele University. Arrived about 12 with no reservation and had the choice of a few seating areas. Nice Sunday lunch menu, with some slightly different options than your local pub. Food arrived in good time, was excellently presented and tasted delicious - highly recommend the Field mushroom Wellington and the fish pie. Staff very polite and welcoming, and the premises were clean and decorated very tastefully. 10/10

Ordered the Chicken, Bacon & Avacado on a Bagel with salad and chips. Chicken was pre cooked and dry, bacon too with a very small amount of avocado spread thinly on a stale Bagel. Don’t think we’ll go again.

Friends had recommended we visit and first impressions were good. Cozy warm with friendly staff. Food was nice but staff recommended we upgrade to Parmesan and Truffle chips, which yes cost extra. However they tasted same as the standard chips, we complained to 2 members of staff about the lack of flavouring but ate them as they were nice. Both said I’ll tell the kitchen but no feed back was forthcoming and the still changed the full price. A simple apology and charge for the standard chips would have been a simple gesture

This is a lovely pub with loads of character - lots of rooms with log fires which in December makes for a really great warm welcome. We shared two bagels (chicken and bacon plus feta and avocado) which were delicious served with fab chips - quite an indulgence as I don’t usually ‘do’ chips but they were SO good! They welcome dogs with dog treats on the bar which our two spaniels really enjoyed. It is perfectly placed being just 3 miles from J15 on the M6 and defo much better than a services. We had previously been going to Trentham Gardens garden centre on our way to the Lakes but they no longer allow dogs inside - not a great thing in the winter. We won’t be going there again and the food at the pub is much much better!

Popped in just for a drink. Lovely cosy environment with log fire and candle lit tables. We didn't eat however the food that came past us looked yummy so we will be back to try. I would recommend to anyone.

My second visit here and possibly my last.Unable to book tables, however upon arrival the staff worked quickly to find us a table depite being busy.Drinks:Ordered a bottle of white wine which was promptly served at room temperature and then placed on top of a layer of ice in a wine cooler. Had to ask for an ice bucket and then for some water to be added to the ice. Staff member didn't seem too happy about this.Clearly no training has been given on how to serve wine. Wine tasted cheap; possibly my fault for ordering a bottle of French wine sub £30.Food:Ordered a sharing plate which was described as being served with "granary bread" to accompany the pâté and cured salmon. It arrived without any bread. When questioned, a plate of pre-sliced white bread appeared.Informed our server, who checked with the kitchen and returned saying they don't have any granary bread; no apology was made and they didn't seem to know how to handle the situation. We ate the pâté and salmon on thin white bread horrible! Butter was served straight from the fridge and was impossible to spread even at the end of the meal.Seriously, if you can't pull-off a simple dish like this then I would suggest removing it from the menu.I should mention that this item was incomplete on our previous visit too, so no lessons have been learned. How hard is it for a restaurant to order a few extra loaves of bread? Judging by stale white bread it is cleary they aren't baking any bread on site.Ambiance:We liked the pub décor and the candles but the area where we dined featured rail spotlights with a harsh flood beam as opposed to narrow beam. This made us feel like we were on stage and was not conducive with the candle-lit ambiance they are trying to achieve. Also, despite the log burner, we all felt cold for the duration of the meal with most of our party unwilling to remove their coats.Overall a very disappointing visit.

Great local pub with fantastic kitchen. Local beers hold their own but the staff and kitchen are what make the visit. Authentic, proper pub.
