My partner booked a table for 5pm on Thursday 18th January to treat a friend to dinner. We were offered a booth or we could have a table but only till 7pm because there was another booking, we chose the table because our friend does not like to sit in booths. Everything was going ok till only two meals arrived & our server said the chef made an error & I had to wait another ten minutes for my meal, when that arrived the fish & mushy peas was barely warm but the chips was nice & hot, also the bread that was purchased at £2 for two small slices was dry. I didn’t say anything to our server because I didn’t want to make a scene in front of our friend. When I went to the bar to settle the bill at 6.35pm I ordered a coffee & was told ‘No, I won’t serve you a coffee because we need the table for 7pm’ Yet five minutes prior to that she asked if we wanted desserts but we had declined. Just how long does it take to drink a coffee? Personally I think our server was more interested in the larger party who had just arrived and was sat behind us. Also there were reserved tables when we walked it at 4.45 & still no-one had occupied them when we left.

A very lovely place to come for lunch. We were going to be in the area and searched for suitable locations and found this one. We found the staff very friendly and helpful and the food was delicious and reasonably priced. Our waitress was Sharon G - she made us very welcome and was very attentive.

My wife and I discovered the Fox in early December and was incredibly impressed with the quality of the food and the staff. We do occasionally take our grand daughter who is only three. what impressed us was when we ordered a small drink for her we was charged for a shot of juice at only 50p and as she often does not want a pudding we had a discount of £1.50 off her meal and was only charged £4.00 instead of £5.50. I am fully aware this is not a massive saving but for us it is the principle of the gesture, prior to this we have paid £2.50 at other local pubs for a small drink for her and no discount when she has not had a pudding, the main reason we looked for another pub, again i know this is not a fortune but for me it leaves a feeling of being ripped off. I would estimate on each visit to The Fox with drinks we would spend around £50.00, since discovering this pub we have visited numerous times. However, we visited twice in one week recently and noticed a marked change, staff seemed very unhappy and not very helpful. Suddenly we are paying 99p for her small drink with no discount off a child's meal. when we queried this we was advised this is because of the new menu, however, we had been the two days before when the new menu was being used and not been charged extra. This now has us questioning whether we should return, for us it is the principle but equally the unhappy faces of the staff which is very off putting. To be frank everyone has an off day, but in a customer facing environment i think a smile always helps.
