Our second visit to this delightful restaurant. An excellent welcome followed by perfect service all through our meal . We enjoyed our three course lunch very much . A leisurely pace, lots of lovely tastes and flavours . Thank you , we will be returning !

If you want to eat food of Michelin star quality in Suffolk, La Maison Bleue in Bury St Edmunds is the only choice. We have eaten at numerous 1*, 2* and 3* restaurants, and the food at La Maison Bleue is pretty much the equal of them all, The service was swift and attentive, the cooking of the chef/patron was wonderful, and the ambience and the overall experience were delightful. The restaurant does not at present have a Michelin star, the absence of which which certainly has nothing to do with the superb food. It is probably because, in the unwelcome opinion of the Michelin inspectors, minor details such as not baking their own bread, kitchen perhaps too small, too many covers (although the tables are very well spaced) - or maybe they need solid gold cutlery, or some such nonsense and frippery. The restaurant is unquestionably of Michelin star quality. My only very tiny criticism (splitting hairs here) was that my glass of Chassagne Montrachet was served a tad too cool, so the glorious flavour only developed fully when I had nearly finished it!

What was a very strong start ended up culimating in an anticlimactic dessert course, but overall my experience at La Maison Bleue was very positive. The starters and venison were very much the stars of the show, and the staff was attentive and helpful in answering my questions. Great for a date night, especially if your partner and you are comfortable grazing off eachother's plate!Parking: There is no parking directly by the restaurant, but there is a paid lot by the Abbey.

It was lovely as usual but… very disappointing that tablecloths were not on the tables , to us it downgraded the restaurant which was always a bit special . That has taken that away . Excellent staff and service , but not quite the same somehow .

Mostly, the food was quite good, the atmosphere relaxing and great service from the waiting staff. Unfortunately the whole experience was overshadowed at the end of the meal when we came to pay. The first bank card I used was “declined payment” and a second attempt resulted in the same outcome, despite there being a considerable sum in my account. A second card from another account (also with ample funds) was also declined. Finally a third a business card from another bank with a huge amount in the account was also declined. Something was obviously at fault with their payment machine. The whole affair was then referred to a manageress/owner. From the start her attitude was rude and arrogant, implying that there could not be enough in my accounts to cover the cost of the meal, or that somehow, all three separate accounts had been hacked at the same time. This was totally unacceptable; her attitude was disgraceful and totally unprofessional and she would not accept that her card reader was at fault. In the end, my partner paid the bill using his card from our same joint account that I’d attempted to pay from, but more importantly, did so at the FRONT of the restaurant and NOT right at the back where we had been seated. The ignorant woman obviously did not have sufficient knowledge to realise that her card machine’s signal did not reach to the very back of the restaurant where we’d been seated. The following day I called both of my banks and neither had logged any attempted payments from this restaurant. Despite the relatively good food and service, we will not be recommending this restaurant to any of our friends.
Two years after receiving gift voucher we made it on six November. An 80th birthday bash turned into a 82nd. This was due to various reasons. To quote Macmillan "events dear boy, events"An incredibly enjoyable meal.

Gorgeous experience here last night,The waiters were all super attentive and service was spot on.The food took my taste buds on a journey from start to finish, every mouthful offering a new hit of flavour and the quality was outstanding. 1000% reccomend.
