Probably one of best pubs for food I ever been in, the steak and ale pie was literally to die for, I would 100% recommend and I will definitely be back when in area again.

Lovely local pub with an open fire. Nice atmosphere. Food is delicious and plentiful. Landlord and landlady have a very dry Sense of humor which could be mistaken for being rude sometimes but actually they are very welcoming.

One of the few "proper pubs" left. A great atmosphere, characterful interior, friendly, efficient bar staff, hearty food and good beer. A pleasant contrast to bland, formulaic pubs that are now really restaurants. The opening hours were a bit strange... closing at 9pm on a Friday, at which point the pub was quite busy.

We came all the way from Belgium to visit The Star Inn and our expectations were blown out of the window. Simply outstanding. Expect a classic Pub setting with a great selection of beers and an even greater menu!! Everything we had from starter to desert were amazing and the black pudding was simply outstanding. Definitely worth the trip and will be back, hopefully soon!

The pub had a lovely log fire on the go which was nice on a cold evening, but we were sat in the back room which wasn't very warm. I felt the pub seemed a bit clicky with locals. We ordered food from the menu, most things a little different to the usual pub fayre. We noticed a few dishes were removed from the boards whilst we waited so this was then limiting the choice for later diners. The food did look nice when it came out, but could of been a bit hotter, and seasonal veg was a small spoon of red cabbage and 3, yes 3, green beans! For what they were charging for the food I was expecting a little more, vegetables are afterall the cheapest items on the plate. For this reason I would not return.

Lovely, village, pub, just off the A12, a few miles from Southwold, well worth searching out if you want to support a talented, young chef. Shall we say ‘old fashioned’, in sense has a warming, open fire, ‘stuff’ all over the place - need to ‘fight’ your way around a stack of logs to get in front door - with a friendly, country, welcome. Wall mounted menu of interesting dishes with broad culinary influences at sensible prices. All were judged tasty - ours and people on adjoining tables ! However, get there early, as some sell out quickly ! Decent, kept ales from local breweries as well as some ‘staples’, even has Orangina ! On our list to re-visit when in area.

We have been to this pub several times recently. We like it because the food is usually good and can sometimes be delicious. We also like the landlord and landlady and the friendly atmosphere.

Me the misses and our 4 children called in for a drink as we was staying near by. We was immediately greeted by the landlord and landlady who made us all feel extremely welcome. I had a lovely chat with the landlord. The pub itself is what I would call a real traditional pub which is a rare find these days. They had a good selection of real ales. I had the golden best which was beautiful. We look forward to returning when we visit again to try the food.

Walked in was not welcomed, place is dirty and full of broken furniture.. had no food as no chef to cook. Not a big selection of drinks and the drinks we got came in dirty glasses and didn't taste like what we ordered.. so left within 5 minutes.. decoration included dirty used boxers on a stags skull. Will never ever return to this pub... manageress was miserable and just stared at us in disgust.. think it was because we were clean.?

We were a little hesitant about coming here for dinner because our impression was that this is a pub that focusses on real ale, rather than food. But as we were staying nearby, we decided to give it a try. What a great decision! The real ale was superb. Very well kept. A choice of three ales on tap and they were all great. The food was outstanding. There was a very good selection of starters, mains and desserts, with some pub classics and many unusual dishes, using local ingredients. Every dish we tried was delicious - so much so that we returned the following evening. The highlights were the pork cheek stew with dumplings, the honeycomb cheesecake and the ginger & caramel puddings.
