This is one of two Indians in Whickham. The food here is excellent, however the service leads a lot to be desired and has been poor on more than one occasion. Tonight we highlighted it was a birthday meal, you would think we had walked off the street. The other Indian would have been all over you with treats and a birthday cake without having to ask.

We have just had an excellent meal here for our daughters birthday and I cannot recommend this restaurant enough. There was seven of us and each one of us enjoyed our food. The service was great. When they realised it was our daughters birthday they gave her a complimentary desert with sparklers. Hopefully we will return shortly

We came here for a celebratory meal. There were quite a few other customers in the restaurant and we weren't late arriving or leaving. As soon as we had finished our meal and were finishing our drinks the man behind the counter started slamming cutlery about really loudly for absolutely ages. We couldn't really concentrate and felt that he wanted us to leave so he could go home. So we finished our drinks and left. When we left we passed the jamdani which was really busy, probably because they don't start making loads of noise, slamming cutlery about and making their customers feel unwelcome. Very annoying when we had spent quite a lot of money on a mediocre meal. Won't be returning. I did notice a picture of the hairy biker on the wall. Bet they didn't start slamming cutlery about when he was in.

Having lived in the area for 6 years, I was told by a friend to try Chutney's over the more obvious restaurant on Front Street. I've been missing out for the last 6 years! Fantastic food, really well prepared and perfectly balanced with spice and flavour. Try the salmon to start - you will not be disappointed! . It's become not only my go to restaurant, but the takeaways are high quality too. I'll look forward to my next visit.

Chutney's food is fantastic. If you want a take away experience that rivals eat in food, this is the place. A great menu with lots to choose from and the food is ready when promised. Eating in is also great with friendly staff and a reasonably nice decor. A 5* Hygiene rating is a great sign and I would definitely recommend Chutneys in the Whickham area.

I've been three times over about six years and this is definitely the last. The wifey has been more often and never understood why I wasn't a fan. She loved it. This time, every member of our party agreed the food was bland.Everything else is good. The service and decor (despite the exterior looking like an abandoned warehouse) is excellent. I can forgive the quiet atmosphere at six pm on a Thursday, and it seemed to be picking up as we were leaving. Maybe I've just hit a bad day every time, as it seems to thrive. But I'd rather go with consistency.Parking: Nearby council run parking. Free after 17:30.

My favourite restaurant in the world. I’ve been to many restaurants across Europe and nothing is as good as Chutneys! Nothing comes close when it comes to Indian restaurants. The price is very reasonable, the atmosphere is amazing and the service is unbeatable. The staff are very friendly. The food is remarkable and especially the lamb Rogan Josh.
