Good food, nice atmosphere and if you want a real treat, ask for a moo milk.

This was an unplanned visit firstly. Arriving in Aberystwyth rather early for our dinner booking, and it being freezing cold, we chose the closest pub to our parking to warm up. Yr Hen Lew Du was the closest pub. Unfortunately, it was not the warmest! We entered the pub and it was rather empty- 6pm on a Friday, I can only assume that the pub is frequented primarily by students, who were on a half term break. It gave me a very 'student' vibe. We were, however, greeted politely by the staff. My husband went and got me a drink whilst I visited one of the smallest toilet cubicles known to man. I am 5ft 2 and very minimally overweight (probably less than UK average still) and I struggled to get in and close the door. The drinks were nice and cold, which ordinarily would be a plus, but it was so cold in the bar I wish I had ordered a coffee. I would assume when it is busy it is much warmer. The bar caters for both Welsh and English speakers on it's menu which is lovely. The staff were very polite and friendly. I'm just not sure it is a place for a 40 year old married couple. It wasn't unclean either. Upon leaving the bar, I can be certain the temperature inside was the same as outside. I hope the staff have a little heater behind the bar!

One of my favourite places to get food in town. Awesome burgers and my partner always has the steak. Lovely staff too. Bwyd a gwasanaeth bendigedig!

Watched a rugby match here, decent enough with TVs all over the place. Some funky meals on the menu but we had a loaded chips dish that was nice.

Fantastic food - highly recommend the burgers, and anywhere that does home made chips gets a thumbs up from me.

We’re here from Shropshire visiting and seen the reviews so thought we would try it out, and it’s so nice! I had the bbq chicken and chips, james had the bbq burger and we ordered nuggets for the dog and they was all amazing! Honestly the food tasted lovely. Would recommend people to eat here. Was a good price too.

Fri 24 June / Sat 25 June 2022Just spent the weekend in Aberystwyth and visited the Yr Hen Lew Du on both daysA nice rustic pub with a good selection of beers. Very quiet on both evenings as were many bars in the town. Although I did not eat here the food did look good as it came out of the kitchen. What did disappoint massively was the condition of the urinal trough in the men`s toilet . . absolutely disgusting . . seriously come on !!!. A bottle of Cif, some wire wool and some gloves would fix this in about 30 mins but I dread to think when the last time a cleaning product was used here.Of note there is a very worn pool table in the pub at an advertised cost of £1 per play . . the table actually works without putting a £1 coin in the slot.
