The hosts at Royal Oak were very accommodating, squeezing two of us in for food at the last minute. The food was delicious. I would recommend booking a table in advance, it's well worth the visit.

Stumbled across this pub on our way home from north to south Wales. Warming atmosphere, great food and lovely selection of beers. Owners very welcoming too. Definitely recommend if around the area!

This was one of the few pubs open in the area for he week after New Year, with most shutting for whatever reason. Great food and good service. A lovely country pub to visit.

Lovely food, shame the steak comes with slaw and not the grilled tomato, mushrooms and onion rings I hoped for that were brilliant. Nice to see they still have Wye Valley Brewery beers, hope they can get hold of some Nightjar ;) did ask :)Kid-friendliness: Had our three “noisy” kids but no issues lol

The Royal Oak is a great traditional British pub. We were in our motorhome in the excellent Pencelli Castle campsite and visited a couple of times. There was a warm and friendly welcome and a roaring log fire. Locals were coming in for a drink at the end of the day, and a number were accompanied by their dogs. There is a wide range of drinks with ales, lagers, and cider on tap. Another day we were joined by friends for lunch and found a good and interesting menu. I enjoyed the faggots with chips, peas, onions and gravy and very good it was. For pudding I enjoyed sticky toffee pudding served with ice cream. My wife particularly liked the raisins and sultanas soaked in sherry, which was also served with ice cream. We had a lovely lunch and were grateful for the warmth of the fire on a cold November day.

Sunday lunch, in my opinion the best value for money I’ve experienced in a long time, huge but manageable portions and utterly delicious, coupled with excellent surroundings and a warm fire can’t be beaten. I had the lamb and for 14 pounds it was exquisite,

We came twice in one day. Afternoon drinks and evening meal. Great beer. Excellent food and great value for money. Staff were very welcoming. We parked by the beer garden with a boat and stayed overnight.

Fantastic pub in a great position next to the canal. Have drunk here a few times but this was our first meal. Excellent food and great value for money. Chips were especially good. Very friendly staff. It's open all week which is pretty unusual these days. Highly recommended.
