We have always loved going to Café Chameleon but not impressed today our order was given to another table that arrived after us so we had to wait while our food was prepared again when it arrived my wife had the hummus platter which should have had olives but there was none and her portion size was poor we were not impressed by the portion size I normally have more sauté potatoes than I did today and it was not a great experience we were given two free drinks to make up for the wait and I wish I had gone inside to ask where the olives were but we had given up by then we are usually happy to drive from Neath but will give it a miss and go elsewhere for a while very disappointed.

Stopped off whilst walking the hound and had coffees and cake. Lovely service, friendly and the most delicious lemon drizzle and blackcurrant cake we've ever had.

We only called in to see what it was like . Cool little pub/cafe . Good atmosphere , well stocked bar and menu. We will return to sample some craft ale soon.

In my opinion, cafe chameleon has the best food in Ystradgynlais. We ordered the halloumi burger, the hummus platter and the tagliatelle- all of which was delicious. The staff is friendly; the atmosphere is inviting and comfortable. It is the perfect place to relax and enjoy good food and a beautiful town.

I didn't eat, my fault.
I stopped in for a ginger beer which developed into a Moscow mule, bloody hot day. The tapas on the next table looked so good.
Friendly service and just over the river from the bus stop.

Arrived for lunch at 1.30 and received our order of 2 ciabattas at 2.35.
Very slow serviceand not very engaging; interestingly there is a sign by the Gents that states if you want a quick service, go to Greggs in the town?
No atmosphere and only one person serving and I assume only 1 person in the kitchen.
Ciabattas we're fine, but lost interest by the time they arrived.

Great pasta, loved it.

Cool place. Love going for a drink in the sunny garden. Good to see some independent beer on offer. The food is excellent, service is friendly, and it's dangerously nearby!

Absolutely gorgeous food. Friendly atmosphere, cosy, and dog friendly.

Carbonara is so much more than cream and sliced mushrooms dropped onto a pan with pasta, and to serve italian food with anything other than parmesan and fresh pepper is a bit naff.
The beer was delicious.

The food is great and it's really nice to have lots of Vegan options. (It would be great if a vegan version of Welsh Rarebit was on the menu!!)
The only negatives are, the service is a little slow and every time I've asked for a glass of water, it's either not arrived or taken ages before they bring it.
Maybe just put water on the tables as standard or have a water station where people can help themselves.

Having read a number of reviews prior to staying in Ystradgynlais, we were really looking forward to checking out Cafe Chameleon. The place itself is well presented and quirky but the overall experience was disappointing. The menu was limited and bland, none of the stuff we saw on reviews which people raved about - eg. Welsh Rarebit, were on. The food was was distinctly average and nothing special. Our biggest gripe however was the service, which at best could be described as limited, at worst unfriendly and rude. A disinterested, surly waitress and a monosyllabic barman, both of whom never engaged with us from the moment we walked through the door to when we left. Pity, places like this need all the support they can get... but it is a service industry and if you don't get the basics right then it will deservedly fail.

Superb little place and full of character. A delicious and unusual menu with generous portions. Friendly service and quirky vintage furnishings. There is also a great little shop selling herbal teas and essences and local crafts.

Service was super slow we ended up leaving rather than order food. Good range of drinks.
