A proper English country pub. Good beers, lovely food. Try the stake and ale pie, you won't be disappointed. The hosts are marvellous, and so welcoming. Nice garden to sit out during the summer. Dog and child friendly.Parking: Pub has its own car park.

We always have a couple of meals at the gate when we holiday in the caravan up the road. Shaun and Ellie are great and never feel rushed. Roast dinner on Sunday is the best around and is a proper traditional roast. Apple crumble is my favourite. The food and drink are so reasonable and service is 5 star. So glad to hear they have signed a long lease so will be staying.

The first time we came to Gate about 8 years ago. Love this pub, very rural location,we only knew about it from people who lived there. Nice village pub, friendly staff. Maybe some music could be played, otherwise it was too quiet last time. New menu since last time. We traveled 1hr+ for a drink there, definitely recommend.

Visited this pub today for a drink and a meal, really friendly owners who made you feel welcome even with our dog. We had chicken burger and the pie and both were really nice. Especially the pie as itcwas one of the best I've had in a long time. Would definitely recommend if in the area.

Massive thank you to the Gate!! Had all my family (14 of us!) round to celebrate 3 birthdays….. and we went to the Gate for Sunday lunch!! Managed to fit us all in .. and lit the fire for us specifically as my old mom in law was a bit cold. Nothing was too much trouble… lovely people, great food, beautiful area and smashing pub!! Had a fantastic time. Thank you all soooo much… especially the kitchen staff … you must have worked your butts off back there!! Much appreciated. It made our weekend. XxxVegetarian options: Yes… vegetarian options available xParking: Two parking options … ample space for us lot!!!

Lovely, friendly couple that ran the pub, great food especially the pie. Sat outside on a Saturday lunchtime, so can't comment on atmosphere. Would definitely return.

The pub was great and staff were lovely. Famiky rub which is great. Lovely village and setting.
Didn’t have food but the pint I had was stunning. Pub looks like it’s been there for years. Friendly bar staff and very clean. Looking forward to my next visit. Going to have a bite to eat then.

No atmosphere, service very slow, only ordered scampi with salad, scampi not the best, salad minimal, Hubby had burger chips and onion rings, very few chips which were greasy no side salad. Not value for money have eaten in better places would not recommend and would not return.

Very disappointed with the meal and overall service, over an hour for the food to come out and when it did took another 10mins to get sauces, waitress didn’t seem like she wanted to be there. Spent £2.50 x 3 (£7.50) on a “peppercorn sauce” that turned out to be gravy with pepper ground into it. And the steak was poorly cooked not a great piece of meat and for £22.50 you would hope it would be better quality. Won’t be eating here again!

Nice little country pub. Was a little surprised with the cost of the food as the lite bite prices are almost the same as mains.
