Stayed at The Red Lion in Atherstone on Saturday 29th April. Have stayed here previously as we have family that live locally. Ran a bath on Sunday AM , no hot water to our bath or wash basin. Requested a staff member to report, no response. Informed receptionist on checkout, told that the manager was unavailable and to email my concerns. This I did over a week ago, no response again. The lack of hot water is poor but the lack of an apology is inexcusable.

Dropped in for a snack, but upon seeing one of the roast dinners, we decided to stay for lunch. Menu read well, and quite reasonable. Some staff milling around and chatting loudly to each other is always a sign of an unmanaged team, but that's the youth of today it seems. Wife's Roast Chicken lunch (in her words) was excellent. However, my fish pie was slightly watery with an abundance of mussels and calamari. The accompanying vegetables were decent, but predictable. Desserts were average. The chocolate whipped cream that supposedly accompanied the Chocolate Brownie was simply a scoop of chocolate ice cream. My sticky toffee pudding and banana gelato was very good indeed. Overall, a nice lunch that I would recommend and would certainly return again.

We had my Dad wake here after the funeral. Everything was perfect. The room was big enough for the amount of people who came back. The food we asked for was excellent. Especially the curry which I am told the breakfast chef had made, this was one of my dads favourite meals so we thought it appropriate. A big Thank you to all the staff you made the afternoon easier for us.

After reading the reviews I was nervous about coming here for a family wedding , upon arrival we were meant with a really pleasant lady asking had we reserved spaces when inside checked in no bother allowed us in our rooms an hour early as they were ready we had family room in annex now it was basic but perfectly fine for us especially with what we paid my mams room was up another flight of stairs so we asked is there a possibility to move her in the rooms above the bar we paid extra 15 pound and they were very accommodating for us no issues at all staff were all pleasant and I honestly don't understand the bad reviews basic clean enough friendly atmosphere and I think they deserve to have a positive review I would return

Stayed here last night with my daughter & my son joined us for what was meant to be a quiet drink & a meal but was what seemed like hours was spoilt by a unruly very drunk lady who insisted on shouting & singing & trying to get attention from ourselves & other customers. After she was finally escorted from the premises a gentleman (?manager) came over to us to apologise, we did appreciate the apology but also told him she should of been escorted off premises long before she was, she was told several times to sit down & keep it down & still continued. Anyway on a good note we did enjoy the food & our room 303 in the adjacent building was nice clean & comfy & all staff were friendly. This is the second time of stopping at the Red Lion, would be nice next time to maybe get a room in the same part of the hotel as the bar & restaurant……

Upon arrival I was greeted by an ill spoken English lady, who couldn’t assist with directions locally or even to our bedroom. The lady was extremely rude when she realised me and my husband couldn’t understand her, so we went to find the room ourselves, when we eventually managed to get into our room after the key not working, it was poorly presented and had a vile stagnant odour. We decided to go and get a drink to be greeted by yet again another member of staff who had zero customer service skills and seemed to be poorly trained, yet I assume he was management due to his attire. When speaking to other members of staff who were on shift at the time this is understood that they have had a high staffing turnover recently yet failing to train the new staff to a high standard. I pity the staff there who are able to do their job efficiently as it was clear that they were frustrated with their colleagues who gave a poor performance. After multiple attempts to get our drinks correct we decided to avoid having the food there as I don’t believe our experience could have gotten much worst..until the next morning when we went down for breakfast and we was greeted by a large gentleman in a suit who spoke to the staff unpleasantly. We only had breakfast here due to it being included in our room rate, had it not been included we would have gone elsewhere. The staff didn’t look prepared for breakfast and we was made to feel unwelcome. Unfortunately we would NOT recommend this hotel nor shall we return.

Me and a colleague booked single rooms here while working locally. Check in took half an hour and several mistakes. We were told we were in the Annexe rooms which were in another building down the road. We let ourselves in to pitch darkness, couldn’t see where to walk or go. Got in our rooms and they were colder than the outside air was. There was the rustiest ever electric heater on the wall which stunk when switched on. Sat on the bed and all we could feel were the springs. The mattress was the cheapest, oldest mattress and significantly past its expiry date. We turned round and left immediately.

Basic but warm and clean, staff were friendly, the bed was comfortable and the room was quiet . Have seen bad reviews on here and was a little concerned but I have to say my experience was not bad. I have certainly stayed in worse places in the past.

1. Staff were rude and unprofessional. 2. The room was a thin galley and the door opened on to the bed. 3. The springs poked up in the bed and I spent a very uncomfortable night trying to sleep without being hurt by the metal. 4. The shower ran from scalding to freezing and did not have a working temperature control. 5. The tap dripped continuously and noisily. 6. The shower head was broken and dirty. 7. The curtains were off the track so didn't close and let in light during the night. 8. The wall had a hole from the door banging it. 9. The linen had odd coloured spots on it. Do not waste your money on this dreadful hotel.

This was the second time we have visited The Red Lion Hotel. The first time was a few months ago and the service all round was very good and the rooms were very comfortable. However since that occasion the hotel has apparently changed hands. On this occasion a few days ago it was for my birthday. We travelled well over 50 miles to the hotel and my brother, sister and their partners travelled from the south coast. We all met up with other family members who lived locally. We had a meal in the early evening which was very good and the staff were very friendly, helpful and polite. My wife and I stayed the night in the room above the hotel and the rooms are very well furnished. However on the down side the bed was extremely uncomfortable and resulted in us getting little sleep. Also due to its location there is a lot of noise from the street outside which went on to well after midnight. There is also an annex a few yards away which also houses guests at a slightly cheaper price. These rooms are extremely basic and the beds are very uncomfortable. They also, being next to the road experience all the noise from the street into the early hours. The breakfast was good but you had to walk 15 yards to get any drinks, cereals etc. I informed the reception staff regarding the beds and he stated they would be changed in due course. He was obviously aware of the issue but didn't appear to be concerned about it. Would I stay here again. No. There are things that could be improved but I was given the impression I’d be wasting my breath telling them.

We had a lovely wedding meal at the Red Lion. The room was decorated beautifully, the food and service was excellent. We stayed over in the hotel, rooms were clean and comfy. It was a really lovey day. Many thanks to all the staff

Messed up food orders. Rude young waiting staff. Unprofessional. Receptionist, blonde lady? Extremely rude & unhelpful. This used to be a lovely place for relaxing in, last time we visited we noticed some unpleasant things but all businesses have off days. This was horrendous for my husband & I. The pub seemed to be dirty and not kept on top of, especially the toilets. It does appear lots of staff standing around and not working and almost do not seem to know what needs to be done, maybe they’re new?

Hello within this email I would like to explain the positive and negative of my wedding you have not response by email so.i posted here's Firstly are bedroom which was the bridalsette room I Don't understand what made it different from any other rooms for example having a hamper or something would of been nice a room with a bath. There were also a lot more nicer room in the hotel. Secondly we were told that when having are ceremony and an hour after the pub would be shut to the public. However, this was not the case. Thirdly -We were supposed to have the lower part of the pub including the convertry shut off to the general public However again this did not happen and we end up with the general public causing issues within the venue. And at points I.had to ask them leave myself. I feel that you need a sign saying private function and the white curtains closed. Fourthly-My partner auntie has a illness where she reacts to gluten to the point were she can't move from her bed due to being in pain. Within the breakfast she had at the Red lion had gluten in it. If that from a frying pan which has been used to cook other gluten food in it or another cooking utilities. Or may something got mistakes got put on the plate. She had only eat at your venue and it was the same reaction she gets when she has gluten. So I hope you will check so this does not happen again. This ment that a close family member was unable to attend to our wedding which upset us alot and she was missed. I feel that the hotel did not deal with this in a professional manner and coming out with a menu saying it was all gluten free so therefore it could not be us it is not good enough. I feel that my family member was not listened to and was not dealt with fairly and the hotel did nothing to comperatant my family member. I wish you to review this situation. Positive We had a great time and the staff were great two especially Dylan and two young girls on duty who maned the buffet were great. And the girl with the glass and brown hair who like dogs was perfect in her role and made me feel very welcome. The buffet was amazing and really yummy. The meal on Friday night was dealt with really well and again the food was great. The pub felt like a homely environment which we wanted.

We had friends visiting, the girls were staying with me for a meal, the guys needed a restaurant to eat in then go out for some drinks. I called in the week, to book a table for them on Saturday 27th September, they took the booking. When they got there, no table for them in them restaurant, they were put in the bar because there was a staff party in the restaurant ( not told that at the time of booking). The food was so truly poor, burgers bad football ground quality) Hunters chicken was tough and tasted so greasy. Massive party going on in the rooms upstairs, clothes being thrown out of the windows! When asked if the food was ok, they told them it was disgusting! Not writing this to get anything free as we would never return, just be warned!
