This is a restaurant to visit if you appreciate good food and good wineWe had the long tasting menu and associated wines (not sure how happy the credit card was) and it was very enjoyable. The chef is obviously an expert on savoury flavours, the desserts divided is a little.

The food are so delicate and delicious. It's a must go everytime I come to Birmingham. The service and the food would never disappoint you. --- From a 3-year customer who has visited 10+ times.

What a restaurant food very good service outstanding we went for small tasting menu every course was spot on what really stood out was the chicken liver with burnt onion which the chef had made into a sheet like Nori and the cod with ponzo probably one of the best sauces I've ever eaten and just one chef in the kitchen to do all this!!! Deserves a Michelin star

OMG….what an absolutely amazing restaurant this is. The food and wine pairings are top notch and beautifully balanced. The atmosphere is superb and really relaxed, and nothing is too much trouble. We’ve eaten at many fine dining restaurants, and Folium was definitely up there with the best. Ben and Lucy are two of the calmest people I’ve ever met and their passion for terrific food and wine permeates easily into the customers. We can’t wait to go back. Absolutely fabulous. Thanks everyone for making it a night to remember.

Everything about Folium is excellent, and I was blown away. Right up there as one of the best restaurants in Birmingham. Phenomenal food, well paired wines, beautiful decor and excellent service. They were well prepared for the fact I’m coeliac with the gluten free version of the tasting menu being no poorer than what my husband had.

Have recently heard about this restaurant in Birmingham, I was quite excited about making my first visit here, and boy i was glad i made the journey to what was a brilliant taster lunch! The restaurant is just a short walk from the train station as well, which was a bonus. Being greeted by a friendly face, it was time to sit down and see what folium had to offer. First was some dam fine canapés and bread, the chicken liver as special with a burnt onion cylinder, which was so fragile! And the Jersey Royal one was just tastefully great. Mock Oyster cracker was extremely crunchy, sourdough had a great crust bake. Then warm custard with lashings of truffle so god dam good, Winterborne Char was next, very light and nice bit of caviar to add a bit of salty flavour. Now that cod that came out was banging ? nice big flakes and the fried bread was so good you could eat them all day. Next was Guinea Fowl! And got to say the restaurant I've been to this is the first time I've had Guinea Fowl in a restaurant, so i was quite happy to see and eat this! Another dish that didn't disappointed and with Puffed potato for texture. Next was the pre-dessert, which in my mind i never thought them two ingredients would work together? Horseradish & Sorrel! And dam, it did really well and so so refreshing on the palate. Next was hay ice cream and miso. You could taste the toasted hay running through the ice cream, just wish i had a bigger and massive portion. Then it was time for the petit Fours, which consisted of milk chocolate & cep fudge. Whisky & Peat Butterfly bun, Both were banging, but the best was the whisky & peat bun as you could taste both flavours. Gotta say i was a really good experience at folium with the food and the flavours they are doing in the dishes... well worth a visit... Again...

Outstanding. This was our second time visiting Folium and we couldn’t have had a better second experience. We first visited some years ago and were so impressed at the time that we have not been able to forget about it and had to make a special trip back! The food is on another level. We cannot understand how they have not yet been awarded a Michelin star as some of the dishes they have created are equal if not better than some of the 2/3 Michelin star restaurants we have been fortunate enough to visit. I am sure that it must be on its way soon! We had the long menu, all of which was creative and completely delicious. (£120pp plus £15pp supplemental cheese dish)For us, the star of the menu was the Orkney Scallop with Ponzu sauce. It is an absolute explosion of flavour, beautifully cooked scallops, faultless in our opinion and one of the most memorable dishes we have eaten to date. A perfectly curated menu and as for the service - the most friendly, professional, attentive and knowledgeable servers in which they played a big part in making our meal so wonderful. We cannot wait to come back already! Thank you to the whole team at Folium, you are fantastic!Parking: Right outside. Easy access

We loved this restaurant because the the food was very unusual, beautifully served on plate’s especially chosen to compliment the food . The wines were perfectly paired and a full and knowledgeable explanation of each one was provided. Very friendly and relaxed atmosphere. This is an experience, not just a meal out. I would recommend it to anyone who loves good food.

I always find it difficult to find the words to start a review. My husband and I booked an evening meal for our joint birthday treat at Folium. It was the first time here for us as we try to book a different Michelin restaurant but this was by far the best one. I can truly say the meal and the service was outstanding. It was the best food I have ever had from start to finish. Every dish was superb from textures to flavour profiles to the crunch of their home-made sourdough. To top it off the hostess Lucy’s knowledge of every dish was a credit to her professionalism. She was as passionate about the food as was the chef Ben. Everything was truly perfect and made our evening very special. Thank you to the lovely couple. They did it on their own. I don’t think many places can do that. We are looking forward to the new menu so we come back with our daughter.

Our visit to Folium was 5 months ago but we still talk about it regularly with family and friends. As fans of the 'tasting menu', we've seen (and tasted) many dishes from many restaurants - but Folium is on another level. The first thing that struck us was the presentation: it's almost monochrome. No flowers here. Each course looked, on the surface, to be ridiculously simple - just one or two colours on a neutral canvas. One dish (the winterbourne char) was the same colour as the plate it was served on! So the overall visual effect is one of almost Zen-like minimalism. Of course, the food itself is anything but. Layer upon layer of deep, grown-up flavours, each clearly discernible but all contributing towards a dish of utter magnificence. Some of the combinations were incredible - in particular, the horseradish ice-cream with birch syrup and sorrel, and the Mayan gold potato with smoked cod roe. There wasn't a single dish that could be called average. I went for the wine-pairing and extra cheese course, and I can safely say it's worth the money. I mean, you're getting top quality food here - lobster tail, turbot, A5 Wagyu beef, caviar etc., all cooked to perfection. We loved our trip to Folium. And we still tell everyone about it.
