Not been for 5 years, but had an excellent meal last night. Only did the smaller menu, but thoroughly enjoyed every bite. Really excellent quality, flavours and little surprises. Some may not like the heavy music and darker atmosphere, but i loved it. Will definitely be back sooner this time. A great restaurant and superior to some of Birmingham’s supposedly more superior kitchens. Go!

I absolutely love this place!5th time now, and if you're getting bored of me saying how good it is, that's because you've never been. Unbelievable food from a fabulous restaurant that knows exactly what I want. Brilliant. Again.

We were really excited about dining at the Wilderness but I have to say we were unfortunately just not blown away by the food. Service was impeccable though and the setting is really nice. However at this price point I would expect luxury and a couple of small things didn't meet that expectation (I.e. not offering any off-menu cocktails, and very basic toiletries) which doesn't match the quality of service or the presentation of the food, i havent included these asides in my review rating. Sweetbread was delicious, its a shame that many of the sauces across the menu tasted similar (creamy and pickly). We are fortunate to have dined at a fair few Michelin star restaurants for less cost and have enjoyed the food a lot more.

Faultless from start to finish. We came to celebrate my daughter’s 18th birthday. We booked well in advance to avoid disappointment and paid a deposit which actually took the sting out the price at the end of the night. The setting is perfect. It’s small, relaxed and dark as restaurants go, but this creates an ambiance that cannot be compared to any other restaurant I’ve been to. The food was sublime. Without a doubt, light years ahead of the likes of simpsons. The staff were attentive, knowledgeable and friendly and Georgia absolutely deserves a raise for how friendly and personable she was. Each cause delighted, surprised and occasionally even shocked us, but to say we will remember every bloody mouthful is an understatement. Thank you for making Freyas birthday an occasion we will never forget. Especially thanks to the addition of the cup of tea!

Well wasn't that just a supreme meal. Fantastic delivery of some epically delightful food. Don't get me wrong its expensive but it's just a fantastic experience and worth the money.

Just the place for a tasty special treat. We had the ‘alternative luxury’ 10 course tasting menu, and thought it was brilliant. Clever, well balanced and delicious… our favourite courses were the halibut, pigeon, and cacao tart. I enjoyed trying the twisted - ‘New World, Old World’ wine, and my husband enjoyed the rum options along with the music. We’ll return!

The Vendor name that will show on your credit card statement after visiting The Wilderness is ANOTHER BAD IDEA. Whilst you might think that when you get your next statement and have to pay for it, hopefully the memory of the food and the experience overrides that. Down an alleyway in the JQ, The Wilderness wants to be different to the other Michelin/tasting menu gaffs in Birmingham. And I think they get it spot on. The pop up that they had years ago near New Street was, from memory, a bit more ingredients focused (there was a pudding with ants on it) and had a tree in it. This place is dark walls, dark furniture, guitar music, but I think the food is even better. Every dish on Tasting Menu 2 (there are three in total) was incredible including beetroot ice cream, pig cheeks, mackerel, pigeon. Service was great, wine was a mix of stuff from £40 to a thousand (luckily I didn't succumb to that bad idea), and the whole night was fabulous for our 10th wedding anniversary. Loved it.

Absolutely perfect experience, beautiful food, incredible staff, I loved it and wanted to hug everyone by the end. Thank you.Edit: Many years after my initial review, this is still all true and you can ask them to add alcohol to their non alcoholic cocktails. Amazing restaurant, the best.

Can't fault the Wilderness. Lovely staff, very welcoming. Slightly nervous from the description but thought they have just the right balance of atmosphere and background music. The wine list is better than can be expected from a relatively small restaurant with some great choices across a range of prices. Food from the tasting menu was some of the best I've sampled in a while with a few absolute stunners combing some exotic flavours superbly. Thanks to all at the restaurant for a great evening.

Wonderful experience for me and my husband today. The tasting menu was probably the best I've ever had (and been to a few Michelin rated restaurants). The most attentive staff and relaxed atmosphere. Would highly recommend as long as you like a bit of Rock and Roll in the mix

Visited with friends fur a long overdue catch up. We chose the 10 course taster menu and it was exceptional. Every dish was excellent and the couple of dishes which I marked internally as a 4/5 were a matter of personal taste rather than flawed in any way. Everything else was a full 5/5. In fact the courses were so uniformly excellent that it is almost impossible to pick favourites. However, the mackerel with celery and grape, shiitake with bread pudding, ajo blanco with beetroot ice cream, trout with ginger, halibut with celeriac and pidgeon dishes were just sublime. I was concerned that the promised rock music might make conversation difficult, but the conversation flowed without problem. Possibly the only issue was with hearing the descriptions of some of the dishes provided by the lovely front of house staff. Service was friendly, efficient and thoughtful. We were greeted with glasses of Prosecco since I had mentioned that we were meeting with friends. One of our party had some dietary requirement and the chefs and front of house went out of their way to discuss modifications and ensure that we were happy with their suggestions. I am amazed by the suggestion that you could leave the restaurant after 10 courses needing to pop into the chippy on the way home. Yes, the dishes were small - they needed to be as there were 10 courses! We felt perfectly satisfied at the end of the meal, but thankfully without that bloated feeling when you’ve eaten a bit too much. Whilst not a budget choice, I would wholeheartedly recommend The Wilderness as an excellent venue for a special occasion.
