On entering the pub my 4 year old went over to a stool by the fruit / games machine. Immediately Fiona the female behind the bar shouted at her don’t get on that stool You have to be 18. You might fall. My 4 year old was reduced to tears. Now I get the safety element but my 4 year old has not covered gaming laws and age at nursery yet. No signage. I suggested she moved the stool and she replied I’m not allowed. Fiona the so called duty manager eventually apologised. So admitting liability. I noticed other customers being spoken to in a similar way by other staff members. One poor elderly gentleman was told 3 times to go back and get his table number by a male member of the team. Poor man. Customer relations contacted and this will be followed up. Dated restaurant. No customer service or atmosphere. Hungry horse head office. I suggest you send a mystery customer to get the real picture. Do not bother with this place.

We have eaten many times before at Martlets and have always been pleased with the value and quality of the meals; however, this time we were disappointed. My husband and I had never tried the fish and chips before , so we ordered them. We fully expected to have a long wait for the food as the pub was quite busy but only waited about 10 minutes for our meals to arrive - this should have rang alarm bells. It seemed to us that the fish had been cooked previously and then re-heated as the batter was hard and greasy. The chips were sad - evidently also reheated. Don't get me wrong, it was edible but not up to the usual Hungry Horse standard. Will not be eating fish and chips there again.

Went with my family on a Tuesday, the restaurant was empty, was told abruptly there was not space for us, and we had to book, there was only one table taken inside restaurant, and one outside, staff need to be retrained in customer service, My Wife Lady Eastcourt was so upset with the rude service, we won’t be going there again.

This is great value for the family, lots of choice and the staff really helpful, a few more bodies to be on the bar would be useful a bit of queing to place order, although I felt 1 member of staff perhaps was training so that was the delay, but food very good and warm all served with very happy server, and prompt dish clearing with a pleasant attitude, we will be visiting again next Wednesday again with family and looking forward to the day

Extremely impressed with the meal, which was ruddles pie with chips. The pie was excellent, tasty, beautiful crust, lovely gravy together with the best chips I have tasted for a very long time. Thank you to the soux chef Helen. The whole evening was enjoyable enhanced by the attentive waiter Alex Campbell.

Visited family that live in Bognor. Went to the martlets for dinner. Originally booked for 8 and then had to move the table to 14 people, they were happy to accommodate. Thank you Kevin for sorting the table out, as I understand how challenging this can be for the chefs. Brilliant service from Emma, and the rest of the team. Massive well done and thank you to the chefs for the quick, hot and speedy food. Would highly Recommend. Keep up the good work folks.

Came here for the first time Saturday evening with my father. It has a pub garden with a children's play area & a large car park. We were immediately greeted & seated as we had booked a table. We were shown to a dirty table in which the server said straight away he would clean it in which he did. Unfortunately all of the chairs were either very worn/tired looking being thread bare in places and/or had numerous stains on them, so we had to try & pick the best of the bunch. When we received our drinks, we noticed the glasses weren't clean; we don't like to cause a fuss & so wiped them over with napkins. Unfortunately all of the menus were stained and/or sticky. We ordered the vegan burger & mushroom & ale pie, but unfortunately they had run out of the vegan burger, so instead I chose scampi & chips. Despite the tables only being approximately 2/3 full, we were a bit surprised it took 40 minutes for our food to arrive. The food was piping hot & we both enjoyed it. A server did also check that everything was ok with the meal too while we were eating. We then ordered dessert - a crumble & Millionaire's Cheesecake. A few minutes later the server brought over my father’s crumble, placed it on the table and THEN decides to inform us that they don't have any Millionaire's Cheesecake! I did immediately express that we should have been informed of this before & so now we would be having desserts separately given I now had to wait for another dessert to be prepared. I was asked which dessert I'd like instead & so I chose 'The Ultimate Big Candymania' which I noticed says 'serves 2' so when the server asked 'the big one or the small one', I said small assuming that would be serving one. I wasn't looking to get a bigger dessert to one we had paid for - I chose that one as that also had cookie dough in it as that's my favourite dessert. This meal was a birthday meal for me being my birthday that day & I had looked at a few venues and their menus prior but I chose The Martlets mainly because of the cookie dough desserts being my favourite! A few minutes later my dessert arrived which initially looked fine, but upon eating some I realised there was no cookie dough in it. By this point we were a bit fed up, so I didn't say anything at that time as we didn't want to wait again for the correct dessert, but would instead mention it when we next saw one of the servers. When we saw one, I did say 'although we weren't actually told this, I assume you are also out of cookie dough?' We bluntly received a response of 'we don't do cookie dough'; my father & I looked at each other in disbelief! I said to him 'why is it on the menu then'? He said 'I've worked here for 2 months & I've never seen cookie dough. It must be in the ice-cream'. I confirmed it wasn't - there was no cookie dough in the ice-cream I had. It very clearly says on the menu 'cookie dough pieces' and 'chocolate cookie dough'; it does not say cookie dough ice-cream. He said I had been given a 'build your own dessert', which isn't even on the menu! I asked why I had been given that, when that's not what I asked for. Upon further inspection, there is a 'build your own' dessert.....on the children's menu! I asked him why I'd been given a children's dessert & he couldn't explain & said 'I can't do anything as you've eaten it now'! I was quite shocked at this; I hadn't eaten it all, but as I assumed I had been given the correct dessert, why wouldn't I eat it? It was only once eating it I discovered there was no cookie dough - how was I to know beforehand there was an ingredient missing? He then offered a 40p refund & said 'that's all I can do' & shrugged at us! My father & I both stated that wasn't acceptable; we had paid £5.49 for a dessert to be g
