I have been a customer of the Lockhart ever since it opened and a very welcome addition to the Haywards Heath scene it was, particularly with regard to the range and quality of its cask ale offering. Generally speaking this is still the case. Latterly though the food offering has assumed a stronger position and equally good it is too. However, since lockdown the Lockhart has maintained its table service only policy which makes it difficult at times to just pop in for a casual drink as you would expect to do in a pub. Despite being a regular, one feels at times as if you are treated like a second class citizen for just wanting a drink. With competition increasing in the town this approach feels short-sighted. I feel this is exacerbated by the lack of a welcoming and identifiable manager/landlord/landlady.

Group of five visited with a dinner reservation. Staff, two young ladies, were excellent with friendly, informed and prompt service at the bar (really good beers selected) and then for our food orders. Most of us went for the Korean chicken burger (one for the fish and chips). Food was delicious (nicely spicy) and great fries. All in all a really enjoyable experience with great service.

Booked for Sunday Lunch - table of 6. Very good as not just a roast available. 2.5hr sitting, plenty of food and drink (including deserts), all food piping hot, came to about £60 a head. Friendly staff and very friendly to our little dog. Will be back.

Great place, great food, especially the vegan cottage pie, my criticism was that we were a party of 10 - and the service charge added was £30 ! This is quite a lot! The staff were lovely, but we did have to ask twice at the bar for somebody to come to our table so we could order more drinks, so we weren’t really very impressed with the £30 service charge added , when all we had were main meals, no starters or desserts so it seems quite a lot just to bring one meal each to our table! Also, 2 of our party had the steak which wasn’t great ?

Very disappointed with the meal and the prices were very high for what was served. The starters were excellent and all 4 of us enjoyed them. 2 of our party, though, ordered the fish and chips. I hardly ate mine as the fish was “mushy” and the tartare sauce absolutely tasteless. The manager did not charge us for these / meals and I cannot fault the service. However, when presented with the bill we were shocked to see a 175ml glass of Merlot was £11! The entire bill came to £45per head and that was without 2 main meals and no desserts at all! Not many drinks ordered at all and we should have ordered a bottle of wine as opposed to glasses of wine but the cost of the entire meal for 4 people was very high. This was not the first time we have had a meal at the Lockhart Tavern but we defo will not be back!

We went as a family. Short notice so we were offered Bar or outside. we choose outside and that was a good choice. All the family and friends enjoyed the beer, drinks and food. Staff were particularly kind and helpful. When we left on Sunday afternoon place was packed. Couldn’t think of a better recommendation

Honestly one of the best roasts I've had this year. The nutroast and mash were especially tasty, and roast potatoes and Yorkie perfectly cooked. The desserts were also amazing and great selection of AF beers. Great service. Highly recommend

Loved everything about this place - staff, interior and food. We had a beautiful roast and every component was lovely. Would definitely recommend to others.

Have been to the Lockhart on many occasions and it never disappoints. Always a great selection of local ales, the food is also great, my personal favorite being the Korean chicken burger which I highly recommend. Staff are good, shout-out to Taela in particular who is always very pleasant. Will no doubt return again soon!

My family & I had the most wonderful meal yesterday at The Lockhart. We were a table of 7 & each one of us enjoyed the experience just as much. Staff were friendly, welcoming & extremely accommodating to us.The food is five star.. there is a wide selection of dishes to suit everyone’s taste buds! It came out well presented, completely fresh & the focus on the flavour is outstanding. All members of our table went for different options, all exceeding our expectations. We also loved the cosy vibe & atmosphere that the restaurant provides for its guests as well as the unique drinks menu, offering specials such as the ‘frozen margarita’ which I have never seen in Haywards Heath before! It’s very tasty! All in all a 5 star experience from us & we would recommend to anyone looking for an excellent recommendation in the Haywards Heath area.

The lockheart is ALWAYS busy. For good reason, it is excellent. The drinks are always rotated and kept refreshed. The service is very good and the food is delicious and always cooked fresh. The prices are expensive and there is service charge added but having previously found both of these annoying and a little excessive I now honestly think it is justified by how good the bar restaurant has become.

Great location and a great place to eat/drink. Loads of beers and wines to choose from and plenty of cocktails as well. Korean Wings are to die for and should definitely be something to go out of your way for. Very helpful and friendly staff as well. Have been a couple times and by no means the last.

Came in for the first time this evening, was served by 2 of the managers, Lydia and Anna! They were fantastic, they were incredibly knowledgeable about the food menu and the wine list, we let them decide our courses based on what they recommended and they didn’t disappoint! We had wings and Satay to start, followed by sirloin and jerk chicken, couldn’t fault anything, would recommendVegetarian options: Didn’t try but they do have a good selectionParking: Easy on street parking right outsideWheelchair accessibility: Yes
