Visited over the festive season, it was very busy but they found us a table for 4, we had lovely sandwiches and all served with a smile.

The staff were friendly and the decor is great this pub has real potential and used to have a good chef. My meal however was abysmal. The menu is not cheap and is limited, my mother ordered a risotto which tasted straight from the freezer and instead of parmesan shavings the kitchen thought shaved mature cheddar would be a classy touch. My thick cut chips were not home made but had a similar freezer quality and my pizza I am convinced by the base and topping was actually Dr Oetekar. £46 for this rubbish that was on a par with the Harvester.

All good here, we had a very pleasant evening and the food is great. Also the whole team working on new year's eve we're spot on. Thanks for a lovely evening ?

What a great find. Portions here are insanely generous. Booked ahead for Sunday lunch, had a wonderful table downstairs next to the bar.Very apt at catering for gluten free, alternative bread was great for starters, and I felt I had plenty of choices. Highlight of the meal was the festive oven baked Camembert with cranberry - absolutely phenomenal. Fish and chips was too large to eat it all, though I did try, and friends all had roasts which looked incredible, again, generous portion sizes. Staff were great. Felt thoroughly taken care of, and very dog friendly inside with treats available for furry friends!Parking at Broad St car park is free, and very conveniently close.

The young lady who served me Izzi hope I spelled her name right could not have been more attentive and obviously took great pride in her work. I had a first class pub lunch and some well cared for ale coupled with excellent service nothing could be improved on. Will certainly visit again as whenever I'm in the area I make a point in calling in to this little gem in the heart of Cuckfield

Christmas lunch disappointing. Welcome prosecco not chilled. Turkey parfait dry and no sauce or gravy and a lack of vegetables apart from four hard- to -cut roast potatoes. Flat white coffee undrinkable and had to be replaced. The occasion was enjoyable only because of the lovely friends I was with.

Literally the best loaded chips we’ve ever tasted - I don’t know what the secret ingredient was but we were in absolute ecstasy eating them ? also the breads and garlic mayo and balsamic were divine , lovely service - well deserved 5 star ?

Went for Sunday roast recently (which is usually very good) with my partner.... my order unfortunately went completely wrong, however the Manager at the time was excellent and handled the situation really nicely. These thing happen, it's how they are dealt with in my opinion.Thank you. Will try you again soon!

Good food but lacking atmosphere and customer service. We arrived, sat ourselves down , helped ourselves to menus and waited an age for a member of staff to appear. There was no apology and our order was taken. There was only one other table in the bar area so we are not sure why we had to wait a rather long time for sandwiches, again no apology. The food was nice but the festive sandwich was missing the bacon and cranberry, I did not feel it was worth complaining as staff were not around and my daughter, who's birthday it was did not want to do so. On the way out as we said goodbye a member of staff called me back as she thought I had not paid. She then even sought out the other member of staff to confirm we had indeed paid. Terrible, what has happened to a place we enjoyed visiting?

We had an amazing wedding celebration in the Hayloft. Archie and Amy were great, they were always supportive and helpful with the planning beforehand to give us the wedding reception we wanted. On the day they were both attentive and keen to help however they could. We couldn't have asked for more. The food was also amazing, and exceeded any expectations that we may have had. A number of guests made a point of commenting how great the food had been, including our guest who for dietary reasons had requested a meal not covered from the options available. She couldn't speak high enough of her meal, it was greatly appreciated. Overall, all the team on the day were amazing.

We visited The Talbot for the first time as looked so nice and cosy from the outside but restaurant felt more like a canteen with no atmosphere, cheap furniture and lighting too bright. Artwork I saw was also pretty pointless and didn't add anything to it!Risotto with red cabbage and goats cheese was tasteless and didn't look appetising at all. The steak in pie was very chewy and inedible! The young lady who served us was excellent though and attentive and the bar to the front was cosy but we didn't stay long as we weren't in the mood for a dj

Sunday Roast was a delight. I had the Vegan Wellington and as promised it was delicious! Excellent portion size for me which sadly left no room for any dessert. ? Next time! Lovely friendly helpful staff…nothing was too much trouble.” Always great food and service.
