We were passing by on our way to visit friends so stopped for lunch. The pub is beautiful and the food was lovely. We got seated immediately and served straight away. The service throughout was fantastic especially given it was Christmas time. The chips are to die for!

Aggressive and rude staff. Absolutely terrible service, food awful. 45 mins to get a drink or even get order taken. Booked months in advance and still couldn't seat party together

We went here for their festive 3 course menu at £29.95 per person. We have been here before and have always been pleased but not for some time so perhaps the management has changed since our last visit. Not long after seating the waiter advised us that although we were booked in to eat, we would be waiting between 30 and 45 minutes to eat. As we were keen to try the festive menu and had previously booked, we agreed. The prawn and crayfish cocktail was a good sized portion as was the turkey dinner. The vegetables however turned up on a single side plate which made it almost impossible to serve from without the vegetables spilling out onto what wasn’t a very clean table, and were for 3 of the 4 guests on the booking. Personally I think serving up vegetables with your dinner on the same plate makes more sense but if you’re going to serve them separately serve them up individually in a hot bowl, not on a side plate. There was also very little gravy served on our turkey dinner, so nothing on our turkey dinner had any gravy on. We asked politely if we could have some more gravy and the waitress brought the smallest amount in a tiny gravy boat and asked if that was enough; it wasn’t but we didn’t have the heart to say no, could we have a little more?…We did ask if it was possible to have a Yorkshire pudding with our dinner when we ordered and the waiter went away to check and said yes that was possible but it would be an extra £2 each, for a Yorkshire pudding; we thought that was a bit steep but agreed…. The desserts were lovely, we each tried a different one on the Christmas menu but when we came to settle the bill, and only after we had paid, did we realise they had charged us for each of the courses separately. It says on the menu you can order any course separately or it’s 3 courses for £29.95. One of our party queried this with two members of staff at the bar and were informed that it did say on the menu they could charge for these separately. We explained we had all only ordered from the festive menu and had ordered 3 courses each so we logically expected it to come to £29.95 per person therefore. We were advised that the manager had gone home by this point (even though it was only about 9pm and there were still plenty of guests there), which meant they couldn’t sort it. Eventually one of the members of staff agreed to refund us the £20 we had overpaid, but it shouldn’t have been a problem for them to be able to put it right for us. In summary, the food here was nice but we came away with the impression that the front of house staff’s hands are tied and they are just following management’s instructions. It could however be so easily sorted but unless you sort it out, you will be losing new customers and not keeping your existing ones. Unfortunately I don’t see us coming back any time soon to this pub which is a shame because it’s a gem of a pub in a beautiful setting, but the impression we came away with was not a good one on this occasion.

After a walk around the nearby RSPB Fairburn Ings, this pub was a welcoming treat, the food was fantastic, with a good menu choice and cracking beer. Every member of staff was very friendly and helpful. Would definitely recommend! The halloumi fries were delicious, the steak and ale pie was perfect, and the portion of fish and chips was very generous.

Been twice and been highly satisfied both times. Meal was amazing, can highly recommend meat pie, and the staff are so friendly, nothing is too much trouble for them. Well worth a visit.

Beautiful Sunday dinner. 7 of us went, 3 had triple meat plate 4single meat, 2 drinks each came to just short of £150 great value. 1 dinner was a glutton free option as daughter is coeliac. Gets quite busy, so you may have to wait sometimes, but well worth the wait. Nice outside area.

Very hostile staff from the moment I arrived until I left felt like I was an inconvenience. At one point waitress stopped talking to me to go and see her friends. Wrong order but waitress insisted it was correct and left. When I paid I did make the barman, maybe manager or owner aware. Not even an apology. So many other places around to eat where customers are actually important.
