Not as I expected from its reviews . Not much covered with a crispy butter, will be liked by a diet lovers ;) didnt want it to be greasy, but would enjoy it more if it was crunchy. Asked for a large fish and small chips - received other way as on screen. Pitty

Another gem in the heart of Huddersfield, the Rat has a splendid selection of beers. They also have their brewery downstairs and do different versions of "rat" beers such as king rat, blonde rat, ginger rat etc. Some of my friends have also been the "face of the tap" by letting their pictures adorn the tap labels. In addition to the fabulous selection of beer, The Rat has a great ambience, brilliant crowd and a nice friendly atmosphere. The bar staff are friendly too and often offer suggestions and alternatives. Again, if you happen to be in the area, do give it a visit, especially if you're a beer lover.

Home of the Rat Brewery an offshoot of Ossett . Plenty of pumps enough to keep you going all night . Beer quality good at reasonable price. Interior a little diverse . Well worth a visit .

Great pub with a nice selection of well kept hand pulled ales. Staff are very friendly & the atmosphere is good. No frills wooden floors & a nice roaring fire in winter. Been going here for 20 years its great.

Friendly local with consistantly good range of beer, worth the walk out of town. Also one of the few places in the Hudd you can sit out in the sunshine for a post-work pint.

This pub is situated a short walk from town, but is worth the little stroll as there is a good selection of hand pulled ales, including several from the local (and extremely good) Ossett brewery. There is a calm relaxed atmosphere about the pub, without the large numbers of drunken teenagers some places in town have. Thoroughly reccomended

It is a great place. Traditional english pub serving ales, lagers, real (and not real) ciders and wide range of whiskies as well as soft drinks and stronger alcohols. However, it is best known for having all types of real ales. They have 12 pumps, 3 of which have local Ossett Brewery beers and another 9 are changing almost every day. I belive everyone finds something nice form mild to bitter! The atmosphere is very good. Food is served from Wed to Sat during lunch time. It is very tasty! They have an outside area with a heaters if you need one! Staff is nice and helpful, you can even try a beer before buying a pint! There is a pinball machine, and a jukebox (free on Fridays). Absolutely great!

Old favourite.Top real ale place -always plenty of choice but don't get attached to a particular one as is always changing. You don't have to be real ale drinking to enjoy this place always a very good atmosphere and can get very busy on a lunchtime.Food cheap and cheerful -once got a heated pitta when I ordered a nan bread.Back room.Best juke box in Huddersfield -by a mile.No complaints.

A nice English style pub serving mainly real ale from local microbreweries, especially Ossett. There is also a number of guest beers, that change frequently. I recommend trying the real cider, that is served. Food is served at lunchtimes, although it is not the best, in my opinion. The pub has four separate drinking areas and an outside terrace. The pub host beer festivals a few times per year. There is a pinball machine, and a jukebox, but the are rather unobtrusive, and are not a distraction. You can also play darts or chess if you wish. It's mostly regulars that hang out down the pub, but the atmosphere is friendly and welcoming.
