Great and long standing pub/brewery on the fringe of town centre with superb beers including White Rat, King Rat and Jute. Live music from time to time. Large beer garden with tables at rear partially covered.

Walked in. No one behind the bar. Had to wait about 3 minutes for the barman to appear.Went for a second drink about half an hour later. Again no one serving. Sat back doy and after about 5 minutes the barman reappeared. Not impressed!Beer fine. The atmosphere was ok for a quiet Thursday.

This place has been a real ale stalwart for 30 plus years and in the Good Beer Guide since 1991. It is a must for any beer drinker. Pub quiz on Wednesdays starts at 9pm.

Great ale drinkers pub, good range of beers. Not so good for non beer drinkers, poor range of mixers for spirits and only one non alchohol free beer.
