Having driven past this place a thousand times and never really thought about it we dropped in for an evening meal on the way home from the airport. Surprised to find a much cosier pub than I'd expected and enjoyed a very tasty steak at a very reasonable price. Good pint of Timothy Taylor's Landlord too.

Great menu with lots of choice, lovely food as always, atmosphere and lovely log fire on a cold day.Lovely to see three vegan desserts (great for me as I am allergic to eggs) some restaurants don't have any.The fruit crumble and vegan custard was divine.

On entering you could feel the relaxed atmosphere of the place and a warm welcome from the bar staff. Nice cask ale and comfortable seating, and music at just the right level to sit and talk. Then things went wrong. I had requested on my online booking a quiet corner table, but we was placed right in the middle of the room next to the bar, and they was room in the other side of the restaurant. My wife ordered cheesy garlic bread, which was over cooked so the bread was dry and no taste of garlic. We did mention this to someone but not very good reaction. then l ordered a rib-eyed steak with spring onion mash, I got it with NO spring onion. Then we had a sweet which was good, but l had joined the club and the free sweet was on the bill. A bit disappointing really as it was the first time we had gone out for a meal since lock down.

Disappointed but also delighted to know that the previous manager Matt has moved to The Foxglove in Farnley Tyas so we’ll be going there in future! The Sovereign used to be such a friendly welcoming pub but it feels so very different now. Called in today, arriving around 15.45-the pub was empty (probably post lunchtime trade) Chose a table where we could sit with our dog & then asked to try a white wine before buying a bottle, that appeared initially to be a problem with the barstaff but she did pour me a small glass to try so thank you for that. The menus were on a table behind us & we were told to help ourselves to them & order food & drinks at the bar-at no pint were we made aware of the special 2 course meals for £15, served between 12-5pm, which I later saw on a board, when I took our dog outside for a toilet break. So instead we paid £45 for 2 mains and a bottle of wine, not the best value me thinks? My husband did clock at one point the bar staff pouring a measure of wine and put the receptacle back on the shelf with no attempt to wash it-his wine glass also smelt of washing liquid, dosent quite go with white wine somehow. Ordered a pie of the day and gammon-wish I’d taken photos, the pie pastry looked great until my husband dug in…the pastry looked promising but there was a very small amount of meat in the pot . The gammon was swimming in grease and to say the pot of peas I’d been given was small is an understatement. The new manager Kelly came down and worked at a table opposite, she did ask us if everything was ok but she timed it perfectly by asking just as we’d put a mouthful of food to our lips! It appeared from the demeanour of both the manager and barstaff that attending to their duties wasn’t a priority and they were actually doing us a favour. Having finished our meals we cleared our plates away to one side. My husband went and put our dog in the car while I along with another couple in front of me waited for the barstaff to come back from the kitchen. On paying the bill at no time was I asked if everything was okay but as I said previously I did find out where Matt has moved to so it’s fair to say we won’t be returning to The Sovereign anytime soon!

Welcomed by staff and seated & served drinks immediately. Food was delicious and all available. Took a little while between courses before someone came to the table and ended up going up to the bar to pay in the end but all in all, an enjoyable experience once again

I ate here purely by any chance on a trip back from South Yorkshire. I was well looked after by Caitlin, Jess and Emily. The drinks on offer were very pleasing, i consumed Aspall Cider, but real ales were available also. I look forward to my next visit.

Not a good experience at all arrived at 2pm for our booking for my sons first birthday to be told no booking existed I had arrived with balloons and everything. A table was eventually found but we weren’t told the soup or pie of the day we had to chase staff for this info! Then was difficult to ask them to split the bill! Food was lovely apart from garlic bread that was inedible! We asked for the bill and sat outside with a drink over an hour later still sat there no bill appeared so had to go in and ask again. Staff didn’t seem to care very disinterested and no offer of any discount due to distress caused due to apparently no booking made. Won’t be returning as staff don’t seem to know what’s going on and evidently whoever answers the phone and books people in has no idea!

We went here for lunch today. We took our dog and she couldn’t have been treated better-dog bed, water, dog biscuits and cuddles. The food was lovely-can recommend the home made pie and the burgers. Excellent, friendly service. Would recommend to everyone.?

A perfect family meal out from start to finish. The Sovereign is beautifully decorated and very very comfortable. We were welcomed so pleasantly and found the set lunch menu to be amazing value at £15.50 for two courses, and still plenty of choice. The full menu was brilliant too. Orders came piping hot and fresh, great quality posh pub grub. It was the perfect place for a get together and we all enjoyed being there, from the 14 yr old up to the 83 yr old. (Mobility access is really easy and there is plenty of parking in the large car park with no steps) Plenty of choice of ice-cold lagers for a hot day too.

Last minute decided to visit iyr local. Wonderful warm welcome as always. Very busy evening, staff sorted a table immediately. Great food and service from the whole team. Topped off by a lift home by assistant manager Lee as no taxis available on a very wet evening. 5☆ SovereignKid-friendliness: Very family friendly
