Spend few days in the area during winter solstice. By walking around we found this gem! A lovely place with friendly staff. Had the best butternut squash soup! They even have a small zero waste shop.

Perfect location and wonderful to finally find a very fresh breakfast with friendly and efficient service - would definitely return and highly recommend as they were also dog friendly which is something we struggle to find.

Always welcomed by a lovely smile from staff. All professional and happy to help. Dog friendly which makes such a difference!Cute restaurant and a great outdoor area with covered Canopy and heaters. Access to river going through their garden which is lovely for the children during the summer. All food and drinks are lovely. Our children love the hot chocolates and cakes and I think their sandwiches and sausage rolls are amazing! An all round lovely restaurant suitable for breakfast, lunch and over night stays.Would definitely recommend!!Nearby activities: Perfect stop for a coffee and cake on your walk around the Fonthill Lake.

Always friendly, easy atmosphere. Beware closed on Tuesdays. Perfect if walking around the Fonthill Estate (which is gorgeous) for a coffee/lunch stop-off.

My husband and I recently bought a new tent and decided to use it one more time before it got too cold, we stayed in a fantastic friendly campsite in Wiltshire. As we were packing away our tent we decided it would be nice to stay another night somewhere and go home the following day. My mother had mentioned Bird and Carter having seen an article in one of the Sunday papers BnB's under £100 so we gave them a call to see if they had a room available. We were at the time standing in a camping field with a limited phone/internet signal. After 3 attempts at calling we were about to give up and someone answered the phone at around 11.30am. When we arrived at the BnB the room felt really cold the windows were open, steamed up and dripping with water. We were really hungry so decided rather than driving to one of the nearby pubs we would have Sunday lunch in their cafe. We were showed to a table and given a menu they were serving an all day breakfast. We should have at that point left but didn't want to appear rude. So my husband ordered eggs royale after about 15 minutes we were told that they had run out of this so he ordered the Haddock kedgeree around 5 mins later they returned and said they had run out of this too. He eventually had eggs benedict £10.95 and I had the veggie breakfast £12.50. The food was fine although eating breakfast at 2pm on a Sunday was a mistake we should have gone somewhere else for a lovely Sunday lunch but we had had enough of driving and we were hungry. After brunch we drove to a very pretty pub/hotel for a drink/coffee. We returned to the BnB. Our room was extremely small you could just about walk down the side of the bed to get into bed but once the curtains were closed there really wasn't room to do that. The windows stayed dripping wet the entire time we were there whether the windows were open or closed. I tried to have a wash in the basin but the hot water was only luke warm, I think the hot water was struggling with the heating being on in our room. The loo flush didn't work properly you had to flush it 3 or 4 times to make it work which was really annoying especially in the middle of the night! There was only one chair in the room I had to get into bed as there was no where else to sit. By around 7pm we were really hungry but didn't want to get back in the car to go out for supper and we were too tired so we stayed hungry until breakfast the following morning. We had our dog with us which made the room feel even smaller it really was a tiny room which cost £125.00 for the night with our dog this is in our opinion very over priced especially considering the issues we had in the room. We stay in hotels and B&B's quite a bit and so we do know about these things. We received an email from Bird and Carter asking us to leave a review on their website, I emailed them instead with our feedback and said I don't wish to leave a bad review on your website but wanted to give you our feedback. I received a very aggressive phone call from the owner who just talked at me and over me and was quite rude and arrogant and told me there was nothing wrong with the hot water so was basically telling me I was lying. I am afraid I gave up trying to talk to her and eventually put the phone down as she was just not in least bit interested in what I was saying and just continued justifying how wonderful her BnB was and how everyone loved it. A very disappointing experience and I don't appreciate being spoken down to in that fashion to by the owner. The waitress who served us in the cafe was very pleasant.

Meh, so so coffee that wasnt hot enough and pretty average cakes. Also visited a few weeks ago and the bread for the bacon sandwich was dry and a drinks mix up meant our teas didn't arrive until well after we'd eaten.

Bird and Carter is a beautiful restaurant - perfect location and lovely outdoor space. We hired the restaurant for our post-wedding lunch and the food and service was exceptional. Would highly recommend going to Bird and Carter for a meal - Annie and the team were incredible throughout the whole process and made the day really special.

Wonderful casual restaurant by a stream. Plenty if indoor and outdoor tables. Great food and drinks from a limited choice menu. Good service. Ample parking.

‘Nice’ but disappointing Stopped for lunch en route to a weekend away in Somerset Had to ask how to get into the cafe from the car park - it’s not obvious Waited whilst ignored to be seated Menu looked very good Smoked haddock kedgeree was extremely disappointing - very dry - just like a packet of microwave rice sprinkled with curry powder plus a hard boiled egg and some vacuum packed smoked haddock flakes - couldn’t finish it - far too dry and inauthentic Pulled pork bap and chips was fine Service at lunchtime disorganised and slow We couldn’t wait any longer for dessert Everyone was very ‘nice’ but the overall experience was disappointing

Really nice menu and food, particularly enjoyed the Kedgeree. Let down by the tardy service. Everyone was very nice, the restaurant wasn’t busy but I waited half an hour between courses. We will try again, but maybe the Monday lunch team isn’t the most efficient.
