Excellent food. They did run out of rotisserie chicken which was surprisingly as we arrived at only 18:30. However, on the whole, great staff and great food. Will return.

When we had to cancel a large booking just before Christmas due to illness, the management was amazing. We rescheduled after Christmas, but they kept the Christmas menu available for us. The food was delicious, the table was easily accessible for elderly mum in a wheelchair, the service was great, and the pub was (well behaved) dog friendly. Thank you to Alan and his team for saving Christmas!

We have just come back from attending breakfast with Santa. The whole experience was amazing from start to finish - the Santa was amazing and took the time to come around to everyone’s table and talk to all the children and the adults weren’t forgotten! He had us all laughing away! Then he had all the children together to read them a story. After that he went to sit by a lovely log fireplace and allowed us all to have photos as many as we wanted. We will definitely be back next year. Well done team for a lovely event. The breakfast was also really great sausage’s especially ?

Since we moved house to live locally in February have been to the Why Not Inn 11 times. Every time the food has been excellent, the staff attentive and friendly and the atmosphere great. We booked for the Christmas dinner menu with our friends on Saturday after telling them how wonderful it was… wish we hadn’t bothered now! … we were shown to our table and a young man said would we like a drink … but we hadn’t got a drinks menu. He went and got one .. so we asked about cocktails, and he said he would have to bring us a cocktail menu… which he did… so we ordered our drinks : 3 cocktails and a cider. Our starters had arrived with the cider, and after we had finished we still hadn’t had the 3 cocktails. We hadn’t seen any staff either. The Ham Hock Terrine was vile… really grainy and gristly and hard to eat. Poor quality. When the waiter collected the plates we said we had only had one out of the four drinks. The waiter chased it up. Our cocktails finally arrived . We all had the turkey dinner option … and it was utterly disappointing. It took ages to arrive. The turkey was gristly and full of cartilage, and pretty tasteless. The meagre vegetables were hiding under the meat, tiny amount of carrot and three tiny sprouts on my plate along with two half roast potatoes and not much gravy. We were waiting for separate bowls of maybe cabbage, parsnips, green beans, cauliflower cheese etc, but no, the four child’s portions were all we had. I asked for some mint sauce and they brought a tiny pot of mint jelly (not the same thing). We were finding it hard to get the attention of any waiting staff… they were quite happy chatting at the bar but getting their attention was impossible. We had to keep calling out when they were whizzing past to get any assistance. We asked to order more drinks and this time ordered two more cocktails and a dark rum and coke. Drinks took some time again, so we chased up again with a passing waiter. When the drinks arrived, the waitress put them all down on the table alongside us. She said “one Bacardi and Coke “ and we said no, we ordered a dark rum and coke. So she walked off with the Bacardi and left the cocktails on the other table. Finally she arrived back with the proper drink and then gave us the cocktails. ! For dessert, which again took ages to arrive, we had three Christmas puddings with custard and. “Black Forest cheesecake” …. The Christmas puddings: each bowl came with two tiny catering flat puddings (like medallions), one on top of the other, with a teaspoon of custard around the edge. The puddings were compact and hard to swalllow. We asked if there was any more custard and were told chef said he would make some in 5 minutes but they were going cold already so we said to leave it. We left the puddings also. The “Black Forest cheesecake” (which gives you images of an indulgent dark cherries and chocolate cheesecake dessert) was actually a standard catering stock berries cheesecake, again pretty bland and nothing to do with Black Forest at all. By that time we had had enough, waiting all evening, being ignored, poor overall service and dreadful poor quality food. We were so embarrassed. The staff on duty were all very young and it seemed overwhelmed … not that it was that busy for half the night. It wasn’t really their fault. Looks like a lack of training and experience, thrown in the deep end. The management clearly underestimated the resources and experience needed for a Christmas dinner menu, even though it should be easier when you have most of the diners preordering and eating off the same menu. So after recommending The Why Not regularly to family and friends since February, we really do feel disappointed and would not recommend their Christmas dinner menu. It was shambolic and poor value. We were offered reduction in the bill, but it was a poor night. We did tip one young man who was trying his best but didn’t have much support. Dreadful .

Lovely meal today with Family. Beautiful food and excellent service, would definitely recommend, and will be back soon.

Having been many times over the years and generally had good experiences with both the food and staff, but this is now probably the third time in a row we have been disappointed, mainly by the poor service and long wait times for both drinks and food orders. I don't know if its just a slower time on a Sunday that we go and staff are changing over but there is just a general feeling of staff not being interested or wanting to to be there - we had a lunch that was ok after order was eventually taken, was hoping to order a dessert but just gave up and went to the bar to pay after trying to get attention and waiting with empty dinner plates for what felt like a good while. Given there were maybe 6 tables total that were occupied so far from busy, this was just really disappointing - I think we'll be giving the Why Not a break for the foreseeable future I think.

Pre Covid we visited this Inn regularly because the Manager, Esther, was warm, friendly & efficient. Her staff were well trained & were equally welcoming providing a high level of service. The food was superb. We returned after Covid to find a change of Management; very poor service & barely edible food so 1 yr later we called in today to see if anything had improved. The Manager was friendly & attentive. After taking our food order he brought us our cutlery but my fork had 2 dirty tines so he had not bothered to check what he was giving out. A young waitress who was clearly being trained....first day ? Being trained on a busy Saturday ?? replaced the fork without saying a word ie.there was no apology.I ordered the Braised lamb Shepherds Pie which was full of fat. The mashed potato & cheese topping oozed with oil. The green vegetables were plentiful & well cooked. My husband had the gammon but it was barely cooked.Although the waitress asked if our food was ok , my husband said 'Yes, mmm..., ok' but when I didn't reply she didn't say anything thus giving the impression that she didn't care one way or the other. What a shame ! A lovely pub in a scenic location spoilt because it can't decide whether it's there to serve junk food like tacos or traditional fayre. Please decide & present one of them well. Needless to say we will not be returning for atleast another year or so.

Lovely place inside and the young man we spoke to was great and friendly. The two ladies however looked like they would rather be milking cats then being there the one lady spilt a drink down a friend's back and when we mentioned what she had done she didn't even say sorry... Shame really as they both put a downer on the evening.

Awful! Had a family meal here today and all the Sunday roasts were lukewarm. Portion sizes seem to be getting smaller every visit. The beef was like shoe leather. Service was terrible. We all agreed the food was horrible and after years of coming here on a regular basis we never will again. The Sunday roasts used to be incredible but now a microwaveable ready meal is better than this food. Avoid at all costs ! Note to Manager, employ service staff that actually know what they are doing and get a chef that hasn’t come straight from a McDonald’s kitchen ! Appalling in every area !

We visited on Sunday and were welcomed warmly with our dog. Had a lovely seat by the fire and enjoyed a couple of drinks and some Sunday roast snacks. The team on were all really friendly and our dog got a few treats and a big fuss. Service was quick and efficient. Would definitely recommend.

We have had some good experiences at this venue in the past but we were disappointed on this occasion. Poor and inattentive service, lukewarm food and uninspiring roast dinner with meagre veg. The staff seemed uninterested, didn’t check how we were getting on. Didn’t have any knowledge or information about menu choices and our waitress managed to get a pot of tea order wrong. It’s a shame as we were thinking of booking for Christmas but don’t think we will be returning any time soon.

Been wanting to visit here for ages and chose a quiet Monday afternoon to drop by.Really nice pub with plenty of seating in the bar, restaurant, marquee or outside. Every member of staff we saw spoke to us and was polite and the sever was really genuine. Got our order correct also. Drinks tasted delicious (maybe because it was my first whisky in a year since giving birth). The food came and was superb. Nicely presented, fresh and REALLY tasty. We just had a sharing platter and some small plates to test it out and was not disappointed at all. I drive past here regularly and will certainly be back soon

Ran out of fish on a friday 6pm. Drinks took 15 mins plus to be delivered to table. Other item on menu not available either, and what we had was a bit average and not good value for money really.

Always a decent meal and welcome at this place with great family spaces available and a good menu selection. Dogs welcome too which is why we like to come here, particularly if the weather is kind, to enjoy the very spacious beer garden
