The sort of pub you take foreign friends to as a shining example of a British boozer
James Grand-Scrutton
Traditional village pub serving real ales and good wholesome food. The unusual thing is it has no bar, and beer is served straight from the cask in a semi-basement cellar.Parking: At the back of the pub 8 to 10 spacesWheelchair accessibility: Possible but not easy

Traditional English pub in the country. Freehouse with a superb range of beers, lagers, wines, spirits.Great to see local brewers and even the Mighty Oak brewery from Maldon,Essex.Their Gorgeous George beer was coming on next, hope they get in Captain Bob and Maldon Gold. Both great beers. We picked three different dishes for lunch. They were all excellent and good sized portions at a reasonable price. I look forward to staying overnight on a future occasion and sampling the fair and beers again. Staff were all very friendly , well done everybody.

A group of approx 16 WI members visited this lovely, quaint old pub. Excellent service.
I love to visit this pub whenever we’re in the area. I hope it never changes. Each time I visit I see something new (or really old). Staff are so lovely. Only came for drinks.

I had a lovely meal with friends. The food was amazing and the service was very good. Lovely friendly, helpful staff. Realy nice atmosphere. I rang ahead as I have dietary requirements, the staff spoke to me, and together, we planned my meal, which was excellent. I would highly recommend it.

The owners kindly allowed up to have our run club monthly meet up here. As all 30 Spider Runners descending on them they swift dealt with orders and all were sat having drink and great food in a blink of an eye. Lovely quirky pub with a wonderful atmosphere. Had most of our runners vowing to come back with their families at a later date. Wonderful service and we all left happy, hopefully they will host us again. Five stars for everything.
