I have had a bad experience been in this pub. I was on my own and all the staff were so rude to me like they wanted me to leave. If all the purpose in the world I would never ever visit this one

Simple food, nothing special, they didn't have chicken for my wife's Caesar salad, and for me, the chicken schnitzel they gave me was practically like a children's portion, the service that the staff offered us was pitiful, they didn't ask us if the food It was fine we had to wait for the cutlery and when we finished eating no one picked up the plates from the table until we left. As usual, same situation in hospitality hiring young people, without giving opportunities to mature professional people.

Great little pub mostly, not enough staff on repeatedly. I’ve been 4/5 times recently and the wait, even as the 3rd at the bar, is extreme. Moreover they don’t seem happy and I saw a manager openly chastise another member of staff in a very rude way. Maybe this explains the lack of staff?!?

Great spot in the centre of town. If you can get an outside table when the sun is out, no better place to spend an afternoon in

I'm a regular here, it's my favourite pub in Newbury. Lovely spot on the canal, great outdoor covered, heated area for colder days and the service is friendly.

Met for a business meeting. Great beer, superb bar snacks. Lovely atmosphere and attentive staff. I couldn't get canalside this time because of the need to work on a laptop. It's a beautiful spot.

Lovely town centre pub with lots of space, a rooftop terrace and plenty of outdoor space for the summer next to the canal. It can get really busy in there which isn't a surprise as the location is very

Friends and family lunchGreat venue, sat nav directions very confusing as no car park. You can park in the shopping centre, multi-story car park (charge applicable), and just walk thru. Pub and restaurant based on the side of the canal lovely to watch the water with the barges and ducks.Food self order at the bar along with drinks. I liked the menu and found I had options, but a few in our party were very limited.I chose the chicken schnitzel and mash, and it was beautiful. Would have preferred extra sauce but didn't spoil the meal.Over all Great experience and would definitely visit again

We have visited the Lock Stock a few times, it is a lovely pub, very cosy and with friendly staff. However something was a little wrong this time - the menu was a lot more limited than previous visits, hardly any starters, no Sunday lunch, with many items on the menu not available (we have visited at the same weekend other years, so I can't see why the lantern parade would have impacted this year more than others). the food we had was lovely however. The biggest disappointment was when we went to order dessert - a few minutes later, after I had paid for our order, someone came over to let us know that the kitchen closed at 5pm! How did none of the bar staff know this, why were there menus still on the table, and how was it possible to book a table for food if you weren't actually serving (I have since spotted that the food service time is on their website, which makes it even stranger that the staff weren't aware of this when they took my order). It was very fortunate that we turned up earlier than our booked time, otherwise we might not have been able to get anything at all. We were also left sitting in near darkness in the conservatory area, the only lights being a string of fairy lights - not sure why we were allocated that table to dine when there were others available. It was lovely when we arrived and we foolishly expected some more lights would come on once it got dark. With so many good pubs in the Newbury area, I have to admit that these little issues combined would make think twice about picking this one next time, as something seems to have declined in the service.

Very lively pub down a side street off the main street. Friendly greeting and quickly given a seat. Unfortunately the table was in a poor position, but luckily a table became free and we moved. Menu was good, although they had run out of a couple of the items and it was only 7.30 p.m. Staff (barman) was very friendly and th service was quick. Food quality was very good. It is basically a very busy pub and there were several parties and couples just having drinks. I think, in the summer, it would be a great place to go as it is next to the river and it would be nice to sit outside. Would return if we returned to the area.
