Went to see the band The Stumble and they were excellent. All though this is a live music venue it is late drinking bar. Don’t expect an early finish. Start times are approx and all though venue stated 9pm it actually started 9.30pm. The stage is about 6m x 4m and is level with a similar size dance floor. There are two tables on the dance floor side. Beyond the dance floor there are two steps up and the bar area. There are about 4-6 tables in the bar area. It was not full but I imagine it slow getting to the bar if full. There are some additional bar stools on a raised area adjacent the dance floor. The venue is very open about its variable starts and that it’s a late bar. They also warn you if you are seated you may not be able to see the band if busy. I like this as you get what you expect and shouldn’t have complaints. If you all want to drink and can’t walk home expect to get cabs. Last train to the Wirral and Liverpool is 11pm. It’s about 20min walk from Chester station. Check for other areas. Recommend you contact venue before hand to find worse case finish time. I did and they responded quickly from their contact page. They sell real ale at £5 a pint which is more expensive than some other live venues. They had Doom Bar and Chester IPA session ale. The latter lacked any taste. The guest ale wasn’t on.

A nice place and it sees me regularly.. friendly staff and not overly expensive...if I am to be honest its poorly designed in the fact that the venue is a terrible shape and small, and the WC is upstairs and...leaning on the side of Bijou this of course is the fault of the building and not the good people that work there ,who to a man are extremely considerate and professional.

Had a weekend away in Chester & booked a night at Alexander’s Live as it was comedy night. Wow, absolutely fantastic night. There were 3 different stand ups & all were amazing. I’d recommend this place for a really good evening out.

Great bar for live music - from what I seen there different bands play there ! We stumbled upon this place while walking at the city walls !Just thought will get a drink however this band with senior citizens started playing and hooked us for longer !They were a breath of fresh air and was very inspirational watching them play and having a laugh!

The Live Music nights and security are very good, even though the stage/front area is a bit small. The toilets have been the same for years and could do with a spruce up. I think the drinks at the bar are expensive- I don't think I've ever been charged £4 for tea in Chester (wouldn't like to think how much alcohol is).

Great bar that brings much to Chester, comedy nights, gigs, festivals etc

What a wonderful place! A great vibe and an intimate place for cool jazz. Love it.
Good place to mix and mingle but as a music venue you look down towards the stage.... So if your at the back or have a disabled table... You can't see.... Only hear... But a lovely venue...

Great night, very friendly & welcoming staff. Great to be able to reserve some seats so my elderly parents didn't have to stand. Thank you. Will be back

Amazing atmosphere, with a range of drink options and lovely bar staff! Has an inside and outdoor space, with the opportunity to book the bar itself for events
