Lovely pub in a beautiful location. Staff were super friendly. I had the mushrooms and then fish, both a little over fried but other than that, lovely.

We called in on the off chance and received a warm welcome. Had an excellent Sunday lunch. (One lamb and one beef) well cooked with plenty of vegetables and extra gravy. All the staff were friendly and helpful. Happy to recommend.

Atmosphere yes 5 stars. The location, the ambience and decor great.Drinks great, although would be good to have prises on the menu. Did not get a receipt either.Service good, actually only minor problems so not going to delve into. Noticeably nobody checked if everything is alrigh.Food! I am so sorry to do this because all pubs are struggling one way or other and deseve support, but food which is the money maker was a total let down. Fair point we only ordered starters and sharer fish platter and some sides. So this review is only based on that and can not judge rest of the food, but if starters are indicative for the quality of the rest on the menu then sorry but is deserved. To keep it short and sweet from everything we had only the salad wasn't frozen or out of a tin/jar/bottle. This is standard practice for the chain pubs but could easily be avoided in independent business. Value for money was not there at all. I know jalapeno poppers are not easy to make and definately not cheap to buy frozen but on average £1-£1.50 price for 100g makes 3 measly peases sold for £6.50 a bit of a joke, just not a good one. Some fish fingers made their way in fish platter maybe in lieu of goujons. Chicken liver parfait looked like it come straight out of a ice cube tray for £7.50 with half baked third of a baguette. We ordered haloumi fries to be served something that was more mozzarella sticks than halloumi. This was sometning mushu and stretchy, everything but the squecky cheese that halloumi is. Even the waitress was confused what it was and presented it to us, as mozzarella sticks. Maybe more accuracy is needed ordering or different supplier of frozen product. Anyway, will visit for drinks any time just won't bother with a deep fat fryer fair. £75 for fried frozen stuff that supermarkets sell for under a pound a portion can not be acseptable, maybe good for kidg birthday but not for that orice in a food setting.I can see in responses that management is passionate and expect maybe argumentative responce or sarky comment, but in reality they need to look into ways to update menus and stick with their own food philosophy. More fresh, local and homemade, not so much frozen out of the back straight in the fryer. Otherwise is a overpriced cheap ingredients pub grub. It shows why most of the other customers were drinking and why was so empty on Friday night.I am sorry this review is not very kind but take it from someone who spend last 27 years in hospitality and catering: we all have responsibility for our customers and profit should not be leading if there is no value in the service offered.

We went to the Abba tribute band and had a great night. The band were excellent and there was a good atmosphere. We had all dressed up in Abba costumes, but we’re in a minority. Need to encourage dressing up next year!! The food was festival style, which is understandable given the numbers. We’d have preferred better quality and paid a little more for it. We had wine by the bottle, which was excellent value.

Sunday lunch is a lovely thing - done well it is a comfort dish - loved by all. Advertised with unlimited gravy and all the trimmings we were looking forward. Firstly it must be said the young waiting on staff are delightful and the surroundings comfortable enough. My sons burger was a hit with him and the beer good also. A choice of beef - lamb and a pork belly variety will tick most people’s boxes - no issue. My soup was tasty - however I was told it would be with a brioche bun instead of a crusty roll owing to a mix up with the supplier. That made for an interesting and frankly weird combination - unpleasant actually. Maybe a trip to the local Co Op or similar that morning with £10 from petty cash might have solved that problem and put the starter back up to par. The main courses were disappointing. The beef ordered was tough. The veg bowl was a bit of a car crash - diced in varying sizes so some hard and some overcooked - not seasoned and without love. My lamb - really nice - though we had to send two plates back because the mash was cold. This brings me to the “Unlimited Gravy” - a bowl of synthetic and frankly awful ready mix that had taken nothing more than a kettle and spoon to make. The sauce is the addition that binds a whole dish together and can make or break it. It was broken. When we mentioned this to our waitress we were greeted with what appeared to be a standard reply - the gravy is Vegan - to accommodate the Nut Roast option on the menu. I don’t know what the proportion of orders are in relation to each dish but to not prepare a real gravy for meat meals I consider it a lazy option in the kitchen - I at least expect a meal out to be as good as I can cook at home and this fell way short. A vegan and meat gravy is not a big ask for any professional kitchen. At nearly £17 for a course this establishment is punching way above its weight for the quality and finesse of a great Sunday Lunch. This middle of the road showing is available at most Garden Centres now at a fraction of these prices. With promises she would inform the kitchen no management interventions were forthcoming so I guess our opinion fell on deaf ears. Having now read the responses to complaint on here it’s perhaps best we left it there on the day and moved on. Since the pandemic I have resisted to leave poor reviews as enough harm has been done to businesses struggling to survive but my feelings needed to be heard. Champagne money for Lemonade experience.

Stayed for a week at Forest Holidays, a few minutes drive from the Carriers Inn, with another family. We headed to the pub on our last night and everyone enjoyed their meals (not bad going for 4 adults and 5 fussy children). Not only were the main courses and dessert excellent, but the staff serving us were polite and friendly. If we were ever in the area we wouldn't hesitate in heading back. Definitely recommended!

A lovely pub, great access for delamere forest walks. Staff really friendly and attentive. Food excellent. I'm vegan and plenty of options for me, the vegan /veggie nut roast was amazing. My friend had the steak and stilton salad. We visited on a Sunday and loved the pub, lots of historic pictures of the local area in the pub too. Dog and child friendly, some very well behaved (or v tired and quiet dogs) in there when we visited.

We went for the day after a wedding family lunch. Lots of us, as in 40 plus people. The buffet that was put on was of excellent quality, so much so people took sandwiches home. Very nice, if I'm in the area again, I will go and try the normal menu meals.

The blonde lady waiting our table was excellent.. second to none. The food was mediocre. The chips were terrible. Not sure why they use those terrible chips. Maybe they save 10p per meal? I will not eat here again.Service was excellent tho
