The Shady Oak is in a great location, alongside the canal, close to an old fashioned hump backed bridge, with views towards Beeston Castle. There's a nice beer garden with tables for earing and drinking outside on a nice day.The staff were very friendly and the pub is certainly worth a visit. On the downside, it appears to have a bit of a staff shortage, so it doesn't open on Mondays, Tuesdays or Wednesdays at present. The lunchtime menu is just sandwiches and / or chips, although these are very well-presented.Still worth a visit if you can catch it when it's open!

Arrived via narrowboat! Ordered quickly and despite the short menu as the Cook was due to finish for the evening, it was lovely food. I managed to trip over the step and go flying but was up quickly despite a sore knee. Was given some ice cubes wrapped in a cloth to help my knee which I had grazed. Soon stop hurting and i was fine. Shame the pub is only opened for 3 days. Everyone was friendly. I'm sure we will call again. N/b Rodbaston.

Stayed at the campsite here it was lovely nice small adults only site it was just perfect . Some gorgeous walks from the site along the canal and onto the sandstone trail .. sat in the beer garden on the side of the canal both nights with our two dogs and it was so beautiful . Everyone really friendly and a decent price for drinks too .. only one little thing which is a negative which isn’t really the sites fault but dogs are suppose to be on leads at all times but some people don’t think this applies to them which is a little annoying when our dogs are tied up and then another dog wanders over to our pitch and causes our dogs to get excited and we are trying to just have a nice sit down .. facilities are good will definitely be back !!!!

Lovely little pub, very well kept.Outstanding surroundings.Beeston castle and Peckforton castle both be seen clearly from the outside seating area.Canal runs along the side of the pub, so a nice place for a short walk as well.Out of the way from the hustle and bustle of the modern world.Well worth a visit.

Expensive, but yummy food. Easy to moor up and walk up to The Pub. VERY questionable operating hours though, so check the timings . Kitchen closes at 1930 and I saw people turned away at 1912 hrs!

Great pub, food and drinks excellent and well priced, stunning views with plenty of outdoor seating. Staff are also accomodating and friendly....a great afternoon or summer's evening out.

Nice place for a drink, sit out by the canal and watch all the boats go by. Never had food so cannot comment and don’t seem open that often due to staff shortages which seems to have gone on for a long time but catch them when they are open and makes for a lovely evening drink

We were on a canal trip planned to stop at this pub for evening meal we rang ahead to book a table and to our disgust we was confronted by a very rude person, whose response was we stop serving food at 7:15 followed by the phone put straight down

Perfectly placed for a walk along the canal. Lunch was delicious, my teenagers devoured it, and my request for vast quantities of tartare sauce for my delish fish was admirably met. In the words of the great Arnie "I'll be back"...Beautiful location, canalside, with a view of the castle.

Lovely pub, friendly staff, excellent food. It was too cold to sit outside but would be lovely to sit next to the canal when the weather is warm.

Arrived for a meal with my family, the atmosphere was not warming and the short haired managers attitude towards staff and customers was rather intimidating. We quickly drank our drinks and left as we did not get the warming pub vibe which was disappointing because it looked lovely from the outside, I guess it was one of those looks can be deceiving Situations. Would not recommend.

Fantastic location in the summer for a canal side drink and food. Food during the autumn and winter has been hit and miss, it feels like it is pre made and heated in the microwave. Hot chocolate made with water?? Disappointing, should be much better.
