Was nice but all you can eat breakfast wasn't all you can eat.

We’ve attended this place a few times and thought me and my wife would bring the mother in law for food. It was a nose hill disaster! The place has dived downhill! The bread was frozen and a lady infront of me was touching every piece of bread to see which were not frozen …. She’s touched every piece and all were frozen! Not hygienic at all. By the time I’d asked the bar staff for actual bread my food had been on the table for 15 minutes. By the time the bread was toasted as it came back out frozen it was 22 minutes. My food was colder than the atmosphere here. We were not the only ones to complain. Also the breakfast is no longer all you can eat and I paid £9 for 2 rashes of bacon and 2 sausages…. Is this harrods? We ordered a coffee which didn’t come till we chased it. Overall it’s a 1/10. Venue wasn’t busy and we know why. Won’t be back here and certainly don’t want cold food/ awful food/ frozen bread which has been touched by every tom d and Harry

I do enjoy going to the Cookhouse. However, despite there not being that many people in, we waited a long time for our food. I think most of us enjoyed the food - three of us had peas with our meal, and they were cold, but just ate them as we were very hungry by then. We as a family did have a carvery in December, which I would definitely recommend. It was also a bit confusing, there is an offer on for January with 20% off food and drinks, but not if you have the early bird offer of two courses for £10.95 (or that is what we understood it to be). Overall, a nice enough place with nice enough food.

Fabulous atmosphere, and the food was amazing and the cocktails went down a treat, staff all lovely. Definitely be back again soon.

I really don’t understand the earlier reviews, myself and my family came for Christmas Dinner and thoroughly enjoyed both the food and the venue. A party of 12 in total including 4 children (all of which are very fussy eaters) and we all loved it! Will definitely be back again next year!

A Christmas day to remember. Great service, lovely food and great value for money. So good we went back a few days later for dinner again. Would highly recommend.

Brilliant lunch with family after a busy new year. Food was superb and staff couldn't do enough for us. Impressed!

Amazing Christmas Day food! The pub was extremely busy which is too be expected during the festive season. Hats off the chef & staff for a lovely experience & coping with the rush! Will definitely visit again.

Myself and my partner and family went to the cookhouse a couple of times during December, both experiences were brilliant, food was of high standard and excellent, the staff were lovely and were extremely helpful, every need was met by the staff, would always recommend the cook house to friends and family and will definitely be back. ??

We came to see in the new year and have a meal and listen to the music act. The music was great but stopped at 10pm. This puzzled myself and my husband who thought, like last year, the entertainment would run on to see in the new year. Sadly we decided to contact our friends who were due to join us and went and met them at home to see in the new year with each other. We felt let down as the atmosphere dropped when the musician stopped. We're not bothering this year if this is going to be the case now not worth it. Sad really as the Cookhouse is a great place with lovely staff.

Unfortunately I have to echo the negative reviews expressed concerning the 2023 Christmas meal experience/day. Firstly, the mild positives were the food was actually decent & we don’t necessarily blame the staff who were obviously under a lot of pressure that day. But there was no communication from any higher up management (who we are going to assume are responsible for the ridiculous overbooking). Profit before people. Though the food was good we still have to leave the lowest rating. The organisation & communication was awful, absolutely no space to move at tables which were positioned far too close to each other, the waiting & lack of information on service for people (wasn’t even told where to get tea/coffee and just the over-all lack of Christmas sprit/vibe (poor music etc). You could argue this overbooking was actually a health & safety concern. No thoughts for disabled. Shame for the staff members who were actually trying to make the day better.Left without tea and coffee and not in the Christmas spirit. Unfortunately we will not be returning next year.

My friends and I went for Christmas dinner on Christmas Day, although the food was nice, we were crammed in like sardines, far too many squeezed in. There was 5 of us, 1 in a wheelchair, crammed on a 4 seater table, back to back. The wheelchair was backed on to a walk through so it was bumped in to constantly, as it was a carvery so people were getting their dinner trying not to drop anything squeezing past tables as-well as the queue at the bar. This really spoiled our experience, never again.

So sad. I and my disabled neighbour live only doors from the cookhouse. She is housebound, she has never been in the cookhouse and I said come on let's go and share a sandwich. We chose a turkey and stuffing, £7.25, we don't like nachos and salad on a cold day was not welcome. I asked the on duty manager, a lady. If she would kindly remove the nachos and salad and just put a handful of chips with the sandwich we were going to share. She said it would be and extra £1.50 for the chips. I said I don't want a full portion of chips just a very small handful, as we don't want the nachos or salad. She said chips are very expensive and as I was upgrading she would have to charge an extra £1.50 for the chips. I explained the situation that it was my neighbours first visit and we thought it might be our go to place for a coffee and a chat in the future, and maybe other neighbours could of joined us. But because of the unbending stand of the manager. We didn't have our sandwich and we will never be returning.

I wish there was a review rating worse than terrible, the absolute worst Christmas dinner I’ve ever had. To start with the amount of people in the pub definitely must have broke health and safety rules. It was that squashed everyone dreaded having to go the bar or going the toilet as it was like an assault course to go. Dodging people, wheel chairs, high chairs. the pre order menu said salmon fish cakes, or chicken skewers…. So you’d assume you got 2 nope You got one. One skewer or one fish cake.! Not multiple’s. The soup was cold and tasted like dish water, and one of our soups had a piece of plastic in. We waited an hour to have the table cleared in the end we did it our selves so we could get our carvery. We queued for the carvery but half of our table was told to sit down as the queue was too big, some of us were getting served at that point half of us where eating and the other half where waiting for permission to queue. When we finally got served it was the scraps of bland food. Then navigating back to your table with food through the crowds of people was ridiculous, getting knocked with elbows and people touching your food with their hair and coats. The children’s food was inedible, I don’t even know what the pasta was it looked like someone had scooped it out of a bucket of sick. We didn’t get dessert as there was non defrosted and we were asked to leave without after waiting an hour and a half for dessert. There was no Christmas atmosphere, playing 50 cent and 2 pac on Christmas Day just didn’t get anyone in the Christmas spirit. So we paid £59 each for a £8 carvery which was one of the worst carvery’s I’ve ever had.! I will be requesting a refund for that shambles.!
