Very disappointed with the food...3rd time now..the chips very disappointing and one of our pieces of fish was almost like a piece you would get from the grocery freezer..I have contacted Rick Steins as I think they should know.

I had a chippy lunch that came with a cuppa. It took a while for the food to arrive.A big plate full of chips and tiny piece of fish. The chips were very dry.I wasn't going to return to eat after my previous visit. I won't visit again.I expect a much higher quality of food with Rick Steins name behind it.The service however was very good.

The serving staff were very polite and helpful and the restaurant was clean and had a lovely atmosphere. Sadly the food left a lot to be desired. In the first instance it took a long time to get to us and then the food we had was so oily that we struggled to eat it. The scampi was amazing but the other fish items we had were dry and bland. Really disappointed at the quality of the food that we were excited to try. Word of warning to those of you who are not dog lovers , there were several dogs in the restaurant and they were quite noisy so if dogs are not your cup of tea you may not want to eat here.

After having looked forward to visiting our food hero Rick Stein we were very disappointed. I’d have to say the food was overrated and overpriced and a bland presentation of the salad with just spinach leaves and no dressing the fish was small portions and little flavour. The staff were good but we did wait a bit long for our order considering only 3 couples in the restaurant. My suggestion to anyone thinking of going would be not to bother. Sorry to say but Rick Stein hang your head in shame.

Went here on 1/3/24 for my parents wedding anniversary. The restaurant was clean and well decorated. We waited for about 20 minutes for staff to take our order, which seemed excessive, as there were only 4 other tables with diners. The staff were friendly. The cod was very nice and the batter was crisp- very enjoyable. However the chips to me tasted dry, like they had been cooked earlier (I couldn't eat them all for this reason).Being as this was my first visit, I felt it was a disappointment. If you are looking to try this place out for fish and chips I would say look elsewhere.Sorry Rick Stein's Fistral, I will not be back.

The worse fish and chips I've ever had. The fish was the size and the gold fish, had no flavor on the batter. Had asked to top the chips up all for £16. If rick stein calls that fish chips he doesn't know what he's talking about.Disappointed is an understatement.

Small fish and hard chips. We wete told the chips are pre cooked earlier in the day then cooked again when ordering . Disappointing to say the least. Will not return.

Came here a meal, nice location over looking the beach/seaRestaurant looks good, and well laid out. Staff and service was ok.Food…. Very disappointing considering it carries the name of Rick Stein.Cod batter was oily, the chips may have been cooked from earlier and heated up again on order. Portion size was ok for ONE person and not two as stated on the menu.Goan fish curry… too much turmeric which was undercooked, the fish was a small price of fish covered in the turmeric sauce, with some scattering of batter bits. Not very flavourful. The most annoying part of the meal was that it was served in a takeout cardboard box. Portion was ok.Not worth the price… won’t be visiting again

Extremely over priced. It used to be good and a decent sized cod but no longer. Too commercialized and honestly no better than frozen cod. The fish n chips in town were much better value and significantly bigger portions.

Food average, I was charged £2 for a small pot of mayonnaise. It’s not all about views, food needs to be good too. Avoid this place and go to a local cafe.

We took our family down to Fistral There were nine of us in all We live in St Dennis and are in the catering industry Our meals were cold and with numerous black chips on our plate The curry sauce was awful not chip shop style it was runny and tasteless We do visit a lot but not going again Quite expensive

Overall this was pretty disappointing. We got grilled lemon sole which was overcooked and the chips were not very crispy at all. Also had cod curry which tasted like it wasn't seasoned with salt at all. Really didn't live up to expectations but the manager that was there was very lovely and nice.

We’ve been coming here as a family (2 young children) since it opened and we’ve always had good food. However in the last couple of years the quality of food has steadily declined while the price has gone up. This week we paid £85 for a really disappointing meal. Over half the chips were inedible due to having hard, black lumps in them and the “regular” fish was tiny. If Rick Stein sat and ate that he would be embarrassed to have his name on the door. Wont be going back soon ??

Despite it being a quiet, off-season visit we waited for a while to be seated (or even acknowledged!). We then waited even longer for our order to be taken and that only happened because we asked the waitress to take it or she would have continued on her way happily ignoring us. The food took a while to arrive - I had chosen the smaller portion of fish n chips which at £11.99 wasn’t too bad value for the size but there was minimal difference between mine and my husbands large serving at £15.99 so I definitely got the better deal. The fish was nice which is the only reason for giving 2 stars but the chips were cold and bland. My daughter had ordered cheesy chips and a bread roll. It took so long for her chips to be delivered that we had half finished our meals before hers arrived and at one stage I went and asked one of the waiters if her order had been forgotten about. Any proper chippy knows that you don’t just serve up a dry bread roll - you can’t do a proper chip butty without a hefty amount of butter. Despite making my feelings clear at the time - even responding to the waitresses standard question of how the meal was with a terse “average” there was no follow up question or attempt to resolve any of our issues. I wouldn’t recommend a visit here and we won’t be returning.

Most disappointing beef rendang I have ever had. Rendang is a dish which is slow cooked in coconut milk so that the beef is infused with the coconut milk flavours In addition the blend of spices used gives this dish its unique flavour. The dish I had today was bland and tasteless and totally lacked the coconut flavours, both the milk and the roasted grated coconut. All in all a disappointing experience. A dish to avoid. Rick Stein should stick to fish and chips.
