We live in Cornwall & have visited the Customs House many times. We have always given good reviews & often have lunch there when in Padstow & the food and service has always been fine especially Sunday lunch. Yesterday we visited Padstow for the first time in About 8 weeks as it really is not worth our while in the main Season. It was rammed! We went for lunch here which was busy but not packed. I ordered the small fish & chips & my husband ordered the Angus burger. The food was not good. My fish portion was the size of a fish finger, it was as dry as a bone. The minted peas looked like they had been re-heated many times. My husbands burger was not good quality meat & again was dry & looked like shoe leather I left mine & he ate his. He was violently Ill yesterday evening although that may not be the cause of course, the standard of the meals we had yesterday was poor & has put us off going back. I really do hope this is an end of busy season blip, no excuse for poor quality food & service though.

Family member inadvertently bought 2 take away plastic cups of Malbec ( red ) and a packet of peanuts for £28….. ridiculously expensive prices at this pub. Never again so customers beware….!!!!!This is quite embarrassing considering there will no return business here and staff didn’t advise of the cost at purchase. Embarrassing as this is my first online Google review…..stop ripping customers off please……

We booked a table on line for our evening meal… 2 adults and 7 year old and our dog. We were placed at a window seat looking out into the harbour… idyllic and a great spot for me to people watch and watch the world go by. This was the third time eating here over the years but was by far the best. We had 2 courses, main and dessert and honestly the food was stein’s worthy. My husband and I had the trio of fish with buttered potatoes and my daughter had the kids pasta…. The plates could have gone back in the cupboard… not a crumb to be seen. For dessert my husband had the sticky toffee pudding and I had the lemon posset… again both were delicious … the staff were tentative to our needs and our meal here was easily one of our best nights. Thank you all for making our evening a lovely one.

I booked a table for four at this local hotel/restaurant for a birthday celebration with friends. I have to say that I was a little concerned that booking was so easy and even available on the day.On arrival we had a drink in the lovely bar and we had a choice of dining in here or in the restaurant next door. We chose the restaurant and we were seated by the window with beautiful views over the harbour. There was a good choice of meals on the menu and I chose the squid for starters and the trio of fish for my main course. The best squid I have ever had. It was so succulent and tender. Two of our party had the fish (hake) and chips whilst my wife had the mussels. The best mussels my wife has had (served with bread and chips) and the best fish and chips our friends had eaten. My trio of fish was delicious too. The sauces with the mussels, and also with my fish was superb, with the excellent waiter providing a spoon without being asked.Sticky toffee pudding and cheesecake for the desserts which were excellent. In summary:The restaurant and location were 5 star. The food was absolutely fantastic. The service was faultless and a credit to the restaurant.I really don't know why this restaurant was not jam packed with a waiting list for a table. The prices were a fraction higher but the food was well worth it.Thank you all.

What an amazing overall experience. The staff are so friendly and helpful nothing is too much trouble. The place is so charming. Beautiful large rooms. Spotlessly clean and spacious. Gorgeous food in a modern restaurant with plenty to choose from. Vast beverage choices in the busy, vibrant bar and the breakfast was to die for served in the beautiful designated area. There's also a conservatory serving fresh coffees and pastries and a beauty salon. The cherry on the cake has to be its location, right on the harbour, with ample parking just across the road. If you're looking for the perfect place to stay in Padstow this is definitely the place to be. Thankyou to Ellie and her amazing team for making our holiday a memorable one. Jo and Rob. X

I'm a bit biased as The Custom House in Padstow is a family favourite. We've tried other pubs here but none match up to the Custom House. Good beers (especially Hicks) decent food and always a friendly welcome.

Popped in for a quick bite to eat and regretted it as soon as our food arrived before our first lot of drinks did. You’d think that anywhere in Padstow offering fish and chips, would do it properly? The fish was good, but a bit of seasoning would have made it better. The chips however, were dreadful! And I mean half cooked, powdery, tasteless, oven chip variety. Why bother? In fact don’t bother. Go around the corner to the chippy instead.

Location is perfect for staying in Padstow: right on the harbour, adjacent to the main carpark, really in the heart of things. Staff were friendly and welcoming on arrival and the room was in excellent condition. Heated towel rack in the bathroom didn't have any obvious controls to reduce the temperature but we didn't investigate for long to be fair so they may exist. Shutters gave privacy and sash windows provided ventilation although only one would stay open. Hotel was definitely nice and quiet at night which was reflective of Padstow in general. Our only real disappointment was that none of the Smart TV apps would connect so there was no option to watch Netflix, Prime etc but standard TV channels worked fine. WiFi was easy to connect to although connection would drop randomly meaning regular reconnection was required. Breakfast was delicious and staff were happy for us to eat at a leisurely pace rather than rushing us out. Other diners seemed perturbed by the speed of service but we were happy to wait a little longer than expected as the food was so hot and fresh. Overall we had a lovely couple of nights and would definitely stay here again.

The Old Custom House is in a great location for exploring the lovely town of Padstow. The staff are super friendly and our check-in was a breeze, with assistance to carry the luggage up a few flights of stairs to our room. We had a corner room that was bright and airy, and offered a nice view across the harbor. The room was spotlessly clean and the bed was very comfortable. With the windows open and the calm of the night, it was a great night's sleep. There is a pub/restaurant underneath but we did not hear any noise from it. You have to use the public car park across the road and it gets really busy - especially in the holiday season when we were there. However, a few laps around and we found someone leaving and it was a very short walk across to the hotel.

Omg amazing I recently treated my partner to a weekend away here for his 50th birthday the staff made us feel very welcomed, the lovely surprise in the room was a perfect end to a very long journey. So worth it tho. The room was stunning and the view was like something off a postcard. The atmosphere was beautiful just to sit and watch the boats was a world apart from the usual everyday life it was nice to stop. Whilst we was there we didn’t feel like we had to go anywhere else, the walk to the beach and the shops were enough for us. We will definitely be returning (with the dogs next time) thankyou everyone who made our visit special.

Rooms were clean and well equipped. Not cookie cutter like modern chain hotels. Staff were super friendly and helpful. Location is great, right in the middle of Padstow by the harbour. Only downside to that was no dedicated parking, but the pay and display was right across the street and reasonably priced. The breakfast was included and was excellent with a wide choice of classic British staples.

The room was the biggest we have ever stayed in! No great view but the room more than made up for that. The location is perfect, very central. The doggy box was a welcome surprise and the inclusive breakfast was superb. As were the friendly staff. Thank you.

We were in room 17 which had dusty skirting boards, wardrobe and fan. There was no chair at the dressing table with nowhere to sit. The windows were dirty. A blister pack of tablets was left in the bathroom from the previous guests and soap and hand cream had nor been replenished and the bottles felt tacky. We had to contact reception for clean hand towels and toilet rolls as the cleaner did not replace these. A positive is that the bed and towels were spotless. Overall we were disappointed in the standard.

Great location & handy car park opposite. Good breakfast selection & restaurant food was lovely. room initially looked ok but lots of marks on walls due to spills. Bathroom clean with nice soap, body was etc. However, the noise in the evenings from the neighbouring pub was dreadful & spoilt my trip. The room backed onto the pub & each evening the music didn’t stop until 12.30am. Could even be heard above the TV & fan ) room very hot, couldn’t have window open due to the music) I was pre-warned that on 1 night there would be music, but not much I could do at that point. Also it was every night not just 1!! This room should be at a discounted rate due to noise level being unbearable. When I checked out & said I was going home to sleep, as hadn’t had a good nights sleep during my holiday, I was told there wasn’t anything they could do as it was the pub next door, then laughed. If you stay here & are in room 20 asked to be moved!!

Very busy wet day in Padstow. There were ten of us including 4 children under 7 in our party. The waitress quickly seated us whilst politely ensuring the tables were cleared and cleaned. Despite a full bar/ restaurant we were served quickly and all meals were delicious. The beers were excellent as was the post lunch coffee. Good value for money. Thoroughly recommend The Old Custom House.
