I was so disappointed with our visit, from the outside it looks nothing special, same inside in fact felt like a Victorian public convenience. Service was slow, when the food came it was dreadful, batter was hard and greasy. Wine indifferent and like everything else massively overpriced.

Ordered 2 cod and chips, one with curry sauce one with mushy peas Bottle of rose wine and cider Unlike past years when we have visited we walked straight in and seated straight way Food arrived in a good time, that’s were the good feedback ends We were given just battered cod and two small sauce portions. We asked where the chip are only to be asked did you order chip ? After saying yes the chips arrived they were very dry and only warm this along with a 2 oz dip pot for the curry sauce which lacked any body and was just watery. Mushy peas were nice but again such a small portion. Will have to think twice and returning here next time we are in padstow. This place only survives on Rick Steins name.

Went for fish and chips yesterday with my family and was soooo disappointed: Price for one portion of fish and chips was £14.95 plus £1.75 for peas and £1.75 for some sauce= total £18.45 for a medium sized meal. The chips were so dry they literally got stuck going down my throat, the fish was tasteless. A child’s portion with no side is about £7/£8 and the size of the fish was disgraceful, it was like a fish goujon with no fish… I wish I had taken a picture of the food but the place was heaving, the restaurant was full and with 2 kids and a baby trying to eat it outside in the freezing cold I didnt think to take a picture. Seriously don’t waste your money here!!!

Honestly not even worth two stars. This is the worst fish and chip shop I have ever been to. The chips were undercooked (and I mean undercooked, with no flavour) and barely any in a portion. The battered sausage was ok and for the salt and pepper prawns you are only given three with a measly portion of spinach. It genuinely felt cheap and not tasty at all. Stein has put his name all over beautiful Padstow but what a joke that is! Will never go back - and would strongly suggest other reviewers not to bother.

We had a wonderful experience at Rick Stein’s Fish and Chips yesterday.Firstly all of the members of staff were delightful but especially the wonderful Lynne, a fellow Staffordshire girl who we shared so many mutual connections with, and she gave us such incredible hospitality to us and all our family.Secondly the fish and chips and all the desserts were just so tasty and delicious, definitely worth the trip to Padstow! Two of our party have refused to eat fish and chips for 15 years due to an overdose from the family business of a chippy at childhood. It’s safe to say they tried it again and became converted, no mean feat! Thank you to all of the team, looking forward to future trips there again. Definitely check out Rick Stein’s, you won’t be disappointed!

Great chips shame the member of staff who served us was so abruot not what you would expect from a Rick Stein

Brilliant, light fish batter, really flavourful fish (whichever the catch of the day was!), Chips were nice but the bread roll was a bit stale. The chippy tea was a good enough deal; a smaller fish, full portion of chips and a pot of tea for around £11.Service was a little slow but they were busy even though there's only a few tables. Bit of a cold breeze with staff going in and out the back door. Toilet was a bit messy but that's less on the staff and more on the dirty scruffs who can't clean up after themselves.A great place for a quick biteWheelchair accessibility: Don't think you'd be able to get a wheelchair in here sadly.

Spent a great day at the food festival, watched some great cooking demonstrations which really motivated me to eat good local seafood. Popped in here on the way home hoping to satisfy my hunger. Ordered the Thai fish cakes and chips. Tasty but barely bigger than a 50p piece and there was only 2 for over £8. Really disappointed

Great location and nice restaurant but the food is at best average for fish and chips considering you pay a premium price. My local fish and chip shop is far better value and much better quality. I felt I was paying for over the odds here, would be reluctant to try again, just very average food.

I am sorry to say that as a family we were immensely disappointed and underwhelmed with our recent visit to the fish and chip eat in cafe. Firstly, staff were unfriendly and unfortunately unwelcoming, not once smiling. The floor under our table was covered in general food mess including, trodden chips and bits of batter. The above could have been forgiven but when our food was served all our chips were lukewarm warm. We did not say anything because we didn’t want to spoil our son’s birthday meal out. We were however very disappointed. For the price of each dish, we really would have expected so much more.

We decided to give it a go as we watched many videos moaning about the place… well we loved the fish & chips. The batter was crisp and the chips were really nice. Yes they were pricey but nothing compared to Dominoes or most take aways. There are other places you can get fish & chips in Padstow so it’s a choice thing.. why buy them and then moan about the price ? but we are pleased we tried them and give them the ?

Food was lovely, but not dog friendly in a heavily dog friendly town… makes no sense, and the woman who told us this in the restaurant was so high and mighty it was as if she is Rick Stein herself! The thing that makes the least sense was the dog water bowl out side of the restaurant… make it make sense please! Also £37.50 for 2 people to have the pleasure of sitting in the cold!

Ate in the restaurant. Asked for Chips with one sausage. And chips with mushy peas came on three oval platters two with chips and one with my husbands sausage and my peas, very odd and awkward to eat. I had eaten some of my chips before I realised my chips were uncooked. Seems some we’re okay and others not. Couldn’t get my fork in. Obtained a chip refund after complaining. Honestly how easy can it be to cook chips in a chip restaurant. Eaten there many times but not again
