We had breakfast, lunch and evening meals during our stay. Tegan, Tara and Ben were outstanding, they made us very welcome, the service was faultless, the food was fantastic at every point of the day, not only were the mentioned staff excellent with us they were excellent to all the guests in the pub whilst we were there, Tara's skill were faultless, she was welcoming people to their tables, taking drink and food orders, chatting politely to all customers and other staff members, Tegan on the bar was also faultless, Ben was around all the time checking everything was ok, also talking to the customers, We found it a very nice place to be as we were spending 3 days in st Austell for a family funeral, we stay in the same premier Inn and ate in the carclaze in November when we came down to see our sick relative, we had a lovely time then that's why we re booked, we will also be returning in the future, keep up the good work especially Ben, Tegan and Tara x

Very disappointed - after our Eden Project visit, we aimed to have a meal for 3 adults and 2 young children due to the rain one of our party went checked for availability, were told about a 45-minute wait, and were fine with it. However, upon arrival, we were informed that walk-ins were no longer allowed due to the manager's decision. Frustrated, we left and found an alternative. Surprisingly, checking online for Carclaze revealed I could still make a reservation. This experience, coupled with a previous similar incident, indicates a need for improved management at this establishment. Very disappointed that I dragged 2 young children out in the rain!

We were booked in for a birthday meal for my wife. When we arrived, we had to wait for quite some time before we were even acknowledged and seated. It was very quiet. After being taken to our table we ordered drinks. When asking for drinks off the menu, the member of staff didn't seem to know what drinks they sold, despite the fact we were pointing to the drinks we wanted off the menu. He then made a fuss about seeing if they could provide the advertised drinks. One of them was a simple lime soda. He then stated he would check to see if they could do it and said he would come back to us to let us know. About fifteen minutes later a waitress came to take our food order. We asked for the advertised burger upgrades but the waitress was very dismissive and said she didn't know if it was possible and would have to ask the chef. Everything we asked for seemed like it was a problem for them. She told us she would check and come back to us. After waiting 25 minutes with still no sign of a drink and nobody coming back to us about or food either, we walked out to head to the Cookhouse and Pub at Penhale Round. This offers the same menu but with a completely different level of customer service and an enjoyable experience. We will not be returning to the Carclaze.

We have eaten as a family several times here, but after our experience last night we won’t be returning, we have in fact cancelled a table we had booked for New Year’s Eve. The waitress responsible for taking our order was pushy and rude, in fact didn’t want to wait for all our party to arrive before trying to make the rest of the table order, When the food came out it was somehow over cooked but cold, my son ordered a smothered chicken burger but was bought just a smothered chicken, we informed the waitress the food was wrong and she basically said it was our fault and she wasn’t sure if it would be change, it was changed after I had to insist it was, and pointed out it wasn’t our fault if the waitress had taken down the wrong order my daughter ordered a burger and chips it came out as a plain burger plonked on a plate with about 5 chips, the rest of our party’s food was cold, service at the bar wasn’t much better, we stood for ages waiting to get a drink with no service which the staff stood around and complained about working there, the staff rude and unhelpful and the food was terrible, clearly the staff are very unhappy and have for to the point that they don’t care and are openly discussing this in front of customer, it’s a shame as we have used the carclaze several times over the past few year but we won’t be going back, I really wouldn’t bother to book here with the way it’s currently being run, terrible food, terrible service

Brilliant service from the minute we walked in. Polite friendly and professional. Food was amazing and fab value. By far is the best white read pub I’ve been in.

We had our Christmas dinner here and I must say, it was excellent. From the moment we sat down until the time we left. It was a great experience. The meal was really tasty, hot and plenty on the plate. The staff were very professional and polite and made us feel welcome. Our waitress was very friendly and helpful, ( I think her name was Stacey), nothing was too much trouble. Would recommend this place for a decent meal and drinks. Thank you to all the staff who made our Christmas.

Having booked a table we arrived on time. After waiting 10 minutes to be seated we grabbed some menus and seated ourselves. Waited a further 15 minutes for an order to be taken. 30 minutes for a starter, 60 minutes for a main, 25 minutes for a dessert. Good poorly presented. Main course microwaved frozen veg tasteless and hard. Restaurant filthy dirty and untidy. Staff over worked with no support. Staff look scruffy, stressed and unhappy. The manager floating about being very ineffective busy doing nothing. All in all a dreadful meal, dreadful service in dreadful dirty surroundings. I would not recommend a visit until an effective manager is in place and adequate staff numbers.

Ridiculous wait time for both food and drinks. Food served cold to add to the problem. Staff seem like they have really had enough.. one commented no one wants to work here.

We went to the carclaze this evening for a meal x4 adults. We were sat down given a menu the usual. We then ordered our food at the bar in which we were told the way we ordered it was difficult for the chef to read so the waitress had to talk to the chef. Not too big of an issue. We then sat down and our starters came out pretty quick however we then sat for over half an hour for our plates to be cleared. I decided to go and get another drink and the team leader was very unprofessional and was arguing with a member of staff at the bar and giving the lady serving a customer a hard time. I felt this could have been dealt with in private I felt very embarrassed for the girl behind the bar. Our plates were eventually cleared and it took around 15 minutes after our plates were cleared for our main course to come out so pretty quick. The food was adequate however a side order had been forgotten. After finishing our meal again it took over half an hour for my pre-ordered dessert to be served. Visited this morning with one of my closest friends & her young daughter. Let me preface this by saying it wasn’t perfect, it was very busy & the 1 coffee machine, 1 toaster & 1 set of juice containers all had queues! I cannot even begin to imagine the abuse the staff get about this in August! Also the hot buffet had run out of pretty much everything when we got there BUT within a couple of minutes everything was there & the quality was much better than anticipated. The scrambled eggs in particular were really good (usually don’t touch them on buffets as they’re usually dried up!) Staff were the main reason for the 5/5 but Whitbread just get a 2/5 - supply your staff with the equipment to succeed!
