Fish had no taste and batter was thick and undercooked would not advise eating

Unassuming from the outside but once the flight of stairs is conquered, the views across the sea and the bustling street below, are beautiful. We were greeted promptly and were given a choice of seating options. The menu is limited but healthy, hearty home cooked food. Roast beef and chowder were our choices. Boy, the size of the plates and quantity of fresh beef melting on your tongue with huge crispy roasties and a perfectly cooked Yorkshire pudding, satisfied even the largest of appetites. But no, it didn’t stop there. We were also served a family sized bowl of fresh roasted carrots with parsnips and red cabbage. Not to forget the generous serving of cauliflower cheese. All veg were cooked to perfection and were soft but just a little bite to make you taste the vegetables and not overcooked mush. Stunning. Now the above would have been enough to feed us both and I started describing the roast as it might grip a large proportion of review readers. Now to the chowder. Creamy salty flavoursome broth. Generous smoked haddock chunks with leek, fresh large muscles as soft as butter with smoky lardons and new potatoes. Served with a choice of bread or chips. I asked what kind of bread and was told just plain white bread (which made me picture a slice of hovis) so I chose chips. On reflection, I am sure the bread would have been a hunk of home baked. Either way, the chips were also lush and triple fried for extra crispness, served in a little basket. I think it’s needless to say, we waddled and swayed with full bellies to make our way back down the stairs and up the steep hills of Cornwall. Stunning food.

Wish I had read the reviews regarding the takeaway fish and chips. £10 for a small haddock and awful frozen chunkys. When visiting a fish and chip shop in any part of the UK, you assume someone knows how to chip a potato. Not here sadly, tasteless frozen chips bought in and sold at a premium. Fish was ok but very small. Disappointed . Wouldn't go back.

The best seafood chowder I've ever had! It was rich, creamy, and filling. The portion was very generous. I'd come back to St. Ives just for this chowder.
Came for a quick takeout. The chips were delicious, clearly freshly cooked with a great texture!I had the shrimp which I didn't love. They were battered which I wasn't expecting (something to make more clear on the menu). For me, this made them greasy but they tasted fine. The rest of my group had a mix of Chowder and cod which they all really enjoyed! The staff were all really friendly, great customer service!Affordable, tasty and quick.Would recommend and would come again for those chips.

Fantastic food and service as always here. I had the Thai Sweet Potato Soup and Hake with Potato and Salad. It was fantastic! I didn’t get her name, but the waitress there who has been working there apparently over 20 years is brilliant.
