Came this morning for a break from the Rugby World Cup but still wanted back for todays games. Thought we’d have a swift couple before getting the ferry back only to discover with great shock and surprise that the landlord were announcing that tonight would be the end of trading and the pub would close. This is a famous, popular and very enjoyable and useful pub overlooking the widest and most attractive part of the Hamoaze estuary of the Tamar. We’ve been coming here for decades. Drinking in the old style interior or out on the benches right beside the river is a great way to pass the time. Maybe there will be more news and detail on this breaking story but all we and the other customers were told was that there have been an horrific run of thefts from the premises and that rising costs have made trading unviable. Everyone was asking whether this is just an indeterminate pause, whether there might be new management or the pub sold off maybe for conversion but nobody could say. We hope that the site and appeal of the pub will main that the closure might be very short but it was all a bit bleak today.

Had a variety of meals, breakfast and main evening meals during the duration of our stay. All of them started with a warm welcome, excellent service and wonderfully tasty food. Already looking forward to returning. Well worth the walk or ferry trip to get there. Genuinely dog friendly.

Stayed here for a couple of nights for a wedding in Polhawn Fort. The pub/hotel is massive - 6 rooms upstairs and a big bar area with lovely wooden panelling and an open fire. The staff were great - friendly and helpful. The food was very good too - big breakfasts plus we had lunch one day - superb mussels and beer battered cod. The location is an odd one - it’s basically at the end of the only road in Cremyll - and handily right opposite the foot ferry to Plymouth. I just wish the weather had been better as the outside looked great too - will definitely come again

Great little find. I've been to the area so often but have never ventured inside for a drink or for something to eat. As a business, we took a trip with friends and were so pleased that we stopped. The barman (Aston villa fan) was fantastic, knowledgeable, very polite, and really helpful in selecting some of the food and wine. Thenother staff were extremely good also, credit to the pub.The food was very good, fresh and arrived very quickly. The wine we selected was a Sand Tropez Rose, which was superb; very well priced, considering it was a good brand.Chapple Property Management will certainly be coming back for another visit. Thanks for a great afternoon.

We stopped off for lunch: I ordered the fish finger sandwich and my husband had burger and chips. The fish in my sandwich was yummy but I was disappointed that my £11 cod sandwich was made using supermarket white sliced bread. My husbands burger was raw inside…not ‘slightly rare ‘ but raw mince. I’m assuming that it was cooked from frozen as we were told that the temperature had been checked before service. I don’t understand how the temperature was ok but the mince inside was red raw. To be fair staff were apologetic and replaced with a new burger, which was better. Given the choice we’d have preferred a refund. Waiting staff were really friendly but the owners could do with investing some time doing some weeding out the front. It’s a captive audience here; perhaps if they had competition the standard would be higher.

They hosted our family and friends for our wedding this summer. Staff were accommodating, kind, witty, and understanding of our requests and slip ups whenever possible. Thank you. Drink & Food was delicious and the portions generous. Rooms were spacious, clean and comfy with gorgeous views of Plymouth Sound. The entire party loved our time there and although we live in Japan we will be back one day! The rambles in the surrounding area left nothing to be desired. I’ve attached some photos of our ramble to the nearby village. Thank you all sooo much!

Good staff great food, what a pity about the outside appearance, lovely hanging baskets and then weeds everywhere even growing up over there advertising board’s, grass not cut around the outside tables, not a loved pub .
