We had an excellent Xmas Day lunch at this pub/restaurant earlier today. Both the food, wine and service were very good, so would recommend this place if you are in this area of Cornwall.

My family and I visited last night for a meal out, a big table of 9 but the staff handled us brilliantly.Service was spot on and all the staff very friendly and accommodating.I had a medium rare 10oz steak which was cooked to perfection and tasted Devine. There were no complaints about the food from other occupants of our table. We followed up with deserts, I had the cherry and apple crumble with ice cream. No complaints at all, one of the best crumbles I’ve had.Great value for money, great food, great service.I couldn’t leave a tip this time but one will certainly be left in future! Thank you!

Hello, It has taken some time to get over our experience and "cool down" before writing this review. We planned a trip down from the Devon/Cornwall border to spend the evening with my partner's elderly Grandparents and we brought our children along with us (aged 4 and 5) who were incredibly excited. As mentioned, my partner's grandparents are elderly and her Grandad unfortunately is coping with Parkinson’s disease. As I hope you can imagine, living with this in your later years makes just the most basic tasks more challenging. As a treat/surprise, we planned to take them out for a meal with us and our children which is something we rarely have the opportunity to do. After a quick look online at various places nearby to where we were all staying, we decided to book a table at the Pearl & Trawl. We had previously eaten here a few years ago and had a good experience and the menu looked good so it was a natural choice. Another deciding factor was that one my partner's grandfather's last jobs before retirement involved the refurbishment of the establishment. We thought this would be a nice, personal and thoughtful touch. On arrival, all was well. We waited to be seated and shortly after our lovely female server brought us over the drinks and food menus. A short while afterwards, she came back and took our drinks order. She was polite, bubbly and engaged with all of us….. a real good asset to any front-of-house team in the hospitality industry. A short while after, our drinks order arrived. These were brought over by a younger (circa early 20’s) team member. He said about 5 words and placed all the drinks in one spot on the table and left us to work out what was what and distribute them accordingly…….. Not a major issue, but we all commented that he seemed “off” or at least in an “off Mood”. # Shortly after, our lovely server came back and took all our orders. The same younger male server bought us our food. There were things on each on a number of dishes that we asked to be left off, and after bringing this up, he muttered something under his breath and just proceeded to bring out the other food. We then asked for some ketchup for the kids to have with their food which he did go and get us, but there was no acknowledgment or engagement at all. Before he left, I asked, “have we done something wrong or to upset you”. He replied “No” and as he was about to walk off, I commented, “Smile”. This was in no way meant as an insult, but to actually try and lighten the mood. My steak was over-done, some of our sauces were wrong and there were a few items that were on two of our dishes that we asked to be left off. This happens and was something we could get over. We never planned to raise this as a fuss, this isn’t something we wanted to cause, and we also wanted to all eat together. When our lovely female server came over and asked; “is everything okay”. We replied asking “if we had done anything to upset the male team member who brought our food over” as he seemed incredibly off….. and almost rude towards us. I said we didn’t want to make a fuss, but she said she would have a word. My partner's Grandad even said “Go gentle on him” to try and lighten the mood and emphasise that we didn’t want any fuss or to cause repercussions for the guy. As far as we could tell, she wandered over to him (now at the bar) and had a light word in his ear. Nothing more was needed and as far as we were concerned the matter was done and dusted. About halfway through our meal, a different male approached our table (the staff member who showed us to the table) and was immediately stand-offish. Saying how dare we speak to a member of his staff like that. How we had no right, and that the staff member was now out the back and unable to continue with work. It is worth mentioning at this point that the staff member he was referring to was on the other side of the pub serving someone else. I repeatedly said; “we didn’t mean to offend, but he was incredibly off with us.” The only response we got was: “Don’t ever talk to my st

We had a lovely warm welcome by Maggie who then proceeded to look after us for the evening. The service was prompt and Maggie was very polite and helpful. Our food was really delicious, hot and fresh. It was one of the best steaks we have ever had. We wished we had more time to stay for desserts. We will definitely be back. Thank you Maggie for being so wonderful.

Staying at the Travelodge opposite the pub. Went for some food and there were issues in the kitchen. Very limited menu, due to the problems and also a new member of staff just starting. All credit to the management as they were short staffed and got the food out which was excellent.

The staff were just amazing so friendly and spoke to everyone including the child in the group. Offered colouring pencils which was lovely.Staff were prompt on getting to us for drink orders then back to take our food order. The trio of roasts was just incredible one of the best roasts I have had out for a while plenty on the plate, the others had fish and chips and was beautiful not greasy and plenty of food. The child’s portion was generous and was very much enjoyed. Will be definitely come back when we are out for Christmas light seeing’s in December.Kid-friendliness: The staff were lovely to our 3 year old colouring given to occupy during the meal. Highchair offered and nothing was a problem.

Food is good, hot and plentiful, good choice on the menu. The new decoration inside is very pleasing and we had a good waitress. Mum wasn’t fussed on the roast potatoes with her ham hock as they appeared burnt but I think they had been cooked in a dark sauce which although fluffy on the inside gave them an unpleasant appearance. You’re never gonna get the best meal of your life here but it’s easy solid and reasonably priced

2nd time here as a good menu but unfortunately the wait for food was ridiculous again. When queried waiting time after an hour and a half we were just told it was all cooked in order and a delay. We paid and left to go buy deserts at tesco due to the time taken. Can only imagine kitchen understaffed as well as front of house. A trainee has just started so may help.
