Visited here twice over the weekend, and had a great experience both times. After wandering around Ambleside I popped in for a Chai Latte - which was delicious. Then I visited the next day with my son: where he was defeated by the enormous Sausage Bap! We both really enjoyed our Caramel Macchiatos too. On both occasions I was warmly welcomed, and felt all the staff I encountered were very friendly. Service was quick, and I thoroughly enjoyed both of the drinks I had. My son was very impressed with the quality, and amount of sausages that were in his bap. So although you might pay a little bit more than other establishments, I feel the price is justified.

Lovely choice of cakes and drinks, we had lemon meringue and the caramel apple pie. Both delicious! I ordered a caramel latte. Only think that I could say it let it down was the Coke wasn’t quite cold. We enjoyed and will return!

We’ve been here quite a few times and always enjoyed the breakfast and friendly staff. On this occasion however I had an unusually unpleasant experience. I went to the toilet and a male member of staff who works in the kitchen was using the unisex toilet with his cubicle door wide open. I could clearly see him peeing. When he came out I told him he should shut the door as women and girls also use the bathroom. His reply was surprisingly aggressive with no kind of recognition that this was unacceptable behaviour. I spoke with the supervisor downstairs and he interrupted my conversation with her and was equally rough with his reply and tried to start an argument. This is really very disgusting on many levels. Personally I would sack this man.

2 * (3.50GBP + 6.50GBP) = 20.00GBP. In simple english that’s 20 quid for two regular lattes and two slices of cake. You do get a very steamy atmosphere with misted windows but still difficult to justify. Coffee was nice. Visited November 2023.

We had breakfast about 9:30 am eating in. Sausage barm was packed with 4 sausage for hubbie and my eggs royale was perfect. Friendly welcome and service, busy but food served quickly enough and good and hot. The breakfast tea was good too!

Great service, great coffee and yes, for two it is £20 for coffee and cake however, the cakes are divine and the coffee is very smooth. Friendly human service and dog friendly too. Don’t pay too much attention to the negative reviews. We’ve been twice this week and both occasions were first rate ??

I came just for coffee, and what I really like is an oat latte. Esquires did a really good job of that. I can't agree about the rude staff, they are really nice!! The queuing to be seated then going back to order is a bit of an awful concept just for a coffee, but I understand why they might do this for larger groups ordering food..

Giving this 5 stars as the drinks (great white and caramel macchiato) were both excellent. The scone was also great and the apple pie very nice. Prices are in line with the region and service is super. Will come again.

Awful. Stank of cleaning products. Cleaning in progress before they closed. I tried to use the bathroom “Oi Pal, the toilets being cleaned” shouted the young waiter as I was at on the stairs. Real charmer that I think ran the place chastised me too. If you need to close early fellas don’t take our money. Overpriced and rude staff. Plenty of places in Ambleside to eat/drink. Avoid Esquires if you can.

We have been coming to Esquires for years. I ysed to love the easy chairs and ambiance of the place. I realise that we have had covid but I feel it has lost the vibe it used to have. Not keen on waiting to be seated. You can see if there is a table. The thing I really dislike is the unisex toilets. Surely they could do something about this. Once the outer heavy door has shut I didn't feel very safe with a man waiting to go too. There is a lot of space upstairs to sort this out. Thanks. My coffee was good and my husbands tea too.

I visited here on the 07/07/23 and had the most amazing experience, server was super lovely which is what made the experience. Food was good on both occasions I went. However, I came back to visit on the 31/07/23 and is was far from perfect. My partner and I specifically sought out this place because of our previous excellent experience so when looking on Google for the place in order to get directions and seeing a 3.9 star rating we were quite puzzled. Upon arriving there was a queue so had to wait which we thought must be a good sign, shows it's busy right? Then once sat down I went up to the till to order to then find out that they had no hash browns so as you might also do yourself asked for a substitute which in this case I asked for more toast to which I was declined. I then asked for money off since I'm not getting the full meal advertised on the menu which I was then declined again. Admittley my frustration and disappointment was directed at the server at the till in which I apologise as they were just taking orders from the old moody bald muppet stood behind the coffee machine who I refused to even look at. Upon sitting back down to wait for my food I realised I had not ordered one of the breakfasts as vegertarian so quickly went back up to the till (mind you this was within a few minutes of ordering) to change the order. I was then declined at first saying they can't do that by another moody old bat in the kitchen but then somehow ended up being told it would be a 30 minute wait which I was happy to do so but seemed almost as if they weren't expecting me to be happy with that. We received our drinks first (two lattes) which were very lovely I must admit and then when we received our food, both plates were meat options! Got it changed and finally managed to sit down and eat, not a great experience at all. Lovely chunks of remnant food on the cutlery too. I would have given zero stars if the servers bringing us the food and drinks hadn't been nice. I can now see where the 3.9 star rating has emerged from. If the server that was working on the 07/07/23 remembers my partner and I, we had our baby with us and also asked you to fill our baby bottle with some hot water. You were an absolute star, I do wish I got your name but keep it up, you literally defined our experience last time and we both really appreciate it, thank you.

Was really gutted, we picked what we wanted and then went to the till to be told there was no chips- due to no fault of their own but still got charged full price- which we weren’t too happy about.Paid £9 for a hotdog which was just a hotdog out of a jar, processed meat and was watery- was assuming it would be proper sausage for that price.Got onions rings too that were very lightly cooked but this could be due to the fryers.Iced coffee wasn’t that nice. The milkshake was really good though! And the staff were really lovely and friendly.

Lovely sausage sandwich and toastie. Tea rather weak. However, the place is tired, paint scratches on the walls, dish cloths on side tables, bottles of sauce stored behind the vacuum cleaner. Rather off putting. No food after 3pm.

Customer Service NON EXISTENT! Definitely would NOT go again purely for that reason. The food was fine but their deep fryer was broken and so were substituting chips for salad. I did not see the sign on the door as it was propped open and people were standing in the way. We were seated and we were not told about this then either. When I went to order, I saw the sign on the counter. I checked with family as we were having chips with our meals. Our daughter asked if she could have baked beans instead (she doesn’t eat salad and they do pots of baked beans with the breakfasts they serve). I requeued and well, you would have thought I’d asked for something outrageous! Baked beans are hardly difficult and very cheap! The answer was “no, there’s a sign on the door!” and “I don’t make the rules”! I asked to speak to the manager as I couldn’t believe, they were being that inflexible! Manager was right there and didn’t interject at all, until I wanted to speak to him and he refused point blank to offer anything other than the salad! I have NEVER had a cafe be like this anywhere before! We could have baked beans but only as EXTRA and pay £1.95 when the toastie was already £9! I couldn’t believe their reaction! Manager definitely needs to attend a training course in Customer Service! Unbelievable! We were livid and said we’d leave negative reviews and he said, ‘no problem’!
