Tacos del sol Ltd
2a Cheapside, AmblesideLovely fresh food served here. The burritos are slightly expensive at £12 each, but they are very filling and taste wonderful and are filled with fresh ingredients. There is only a bit of space inside, to sit and eat, but regardless of that, the quality of the food gets my 5 star rating. Thank you.

Waterhead Coffee Shop
Borrans Rd, AmblesideWe had a stop off in Ambleside while doing the Walkers route from Windermere.Very busy cafe which has very little room to move but if you can take away or get a table outside I’d recommend. It has a great view over the lake and is right next to the ferry ports. We had the fruit crumble (the star of the show), ham and cheese and their tuna panini - all very good.No complaints other than no customer toilet on site.

Fresher's cafe
3, The Courtyard, Rothay Rd, AmblesideWhat a pleasure. The people are absolutely wonderful, and the food meets that standard. There's a real family atmosphere. We got a full English and a breakfast bap. We asked for the bacon do be well done, and for the fried eggs to be flipped for a second to make sure the yolks were perfect. They did it all with a smile. They treated our dog like royalty, and gave up their time to tell us everything about all 12 cakes for which their 91-year-old matriarch was largely responsible. The next time I'm in Ambleside I'll make a beeline for Freshers Cafe, for sure.

FOOD IN THE FELLS
Rothay Rd, Rothay Bridge, holme, AmblesideThe food from Food in the Fells is absolutely amazing. Easily the best food in the whole of the Lakes. Highly recommend the Wansfell burger and the calzone. Servings are generous. Little difficult to find if you don’t know where you’re going but the staff will happily help you over the phone.

The Lucky Dragon
1 Unicorn Building, Compston Rd, AmblesideChinese takeaway in Ambleside. We went for the set dinner for 2 which is only £25. (Cash only mind!) Spring rolls were proper size and full, very good. Ribs decent size and meaty. Chicken sweet&sour was pretty good, as was beef in black bean. Both with reasonable amounts of meat. Rice was really good with plenty of shrimp and pork in. Very quick service. There doesn't seem to be any way to order online and as we had no phone signal, we just popped in, ordered then went up the road to the pub for a quick ale before collecting. Takeaway chinese can be very hit and miss as you've paid for your food and taken it, before you get to see what you've been served. This was pretty good. Certainly better than the other Ambleside offering. Good value for money. We ate every single bit of it!

Ambleside Fish & Chips
Waterhead, AmblesideSome of the best Fish and Chips I've ever had. Tasty, affordable, lovely considerate staff, and pretty views from outside under the umbrellas. Good selection of condiments available.Haven't had dandelion and burdock in years aswell so extra brownie points for that :DSeats were also available inside if the weather is out in force.Parking: Small car park right outside but filed up too quickly. Not five minutes walk along the water front there is a big paid car park and public toilet. It's expensive, £4 for up to 2/3 hours and 50p for the loo, but it is the same as any similar car park up in the lakes. There are places requiring a parking disc to park for an hour for freeWheelchair accessibility: Counter is accessible, gravel in the outside seating area, other public seating short distance away along the water's edge. Mostly just public park benches along the water though.

The Old Stamp House Restaurant
Old Stamp House, The, Church St, AmblesideAbsolutely loved our meal here last night. It was the perfect way to end our week in the lake district. We got to try many of the Michelin pubs/restaurants in the area and found our dinner here to be the most memorable. Warm and lovely service, great cooking, super local produce and very accommodating staff. I had requested to swap their signature hogget dish as I'm allergic to lamb and was given a delightful cod main instead. I will dream of that cod cookery! It was perfection. It was also lovely to meet the chef Ryan who came out to serve us the mains. What a fabulous touch! We will definitely be back here the next time we visit the Lake District.

Sawrey House Hotel
Near Sawrey, AmblesideWe visited this hotel yesterday not for an overnight stay but to have afternoon tea, and can thoroughly recommend it!A group of 6 adults, and 1 overtired and slightly grumpy toddler, they were able to accommodate us brilliantly. The Lounge and bar area was tastefully decorated, and the dining room where we were seated for our tea was warm and inviting. The staff were attentive, and we were served drinks straight away. When the food was brought out, it looked beautiful on the serving trays and tasted superb. Highlights were the egg mayonnaise sandwiches and the fresh scones & cream!Nothing was too much trouble despite us asking a variety of different questions, even the chef popped out to meet us before we left! We’re all heading back for breakfast today and thoroughly looking forward to it.Wish we’d found you earlier

Church St, AmblesideVisited early morning in March 2024 and it was already busy. A really lovely little cafe, which did a gorgeous vegan breakfast (maybe less bread and more hash browns?). The atmosphere was charming and loved the old black & white film footage of Popeye, Olive & Bluto on the wall. A great find and one I'll certainly return to.Vegetarian options: Does cater for vegans.

We ordered the gnocchi and nduja pasta for our mains with a side of cheesy garlic bread and burrata to start. DELICIOUS! The atmosphere was lovely and the decor of the restaurant is beautiful.
